Wow, I blindly answered your question and didn't even notice where you lived. PMSC without a question.
Conveniently, there's a membership meeting tomorrow night where you can sign up!

Re: looking for range, land, anywhere to shoot
Are you not interested in joining a club?
If not PMSC, there are at least two other clubs within minutes of PMSC.
If you're looking for a public range, good luck with that.
You get what you pay for, and the "free" State Game lands range is the last place on earth I'd consider judging by the things I've read. Too many restrictions - too many jackasses.
I don't know of anyone in the area with land you can shoot on.
Hope you can get fixed up soon. It's no fun having no place to shoot.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Definitely a couple of Clubs not far from you that "aren't like" PMSC. How about McKeesport Sportsmen's Club or White Oak? Both are cheaper than PMSC without all of the BS. PMSC lost their charm when they moved to their current location. They were a much better Club when they were up on the hill just out of Monroeville.

Re: looking for range, land, anywhere to shoot
there is a free state game land range near the intersection of I79 and route 910 in allegheny county.
i posted directions to it in another thread a couple years back:
http://forum.pafoa.org/ranges-18/212....html#post1697
i shot there for awhile after greater pitt gun club closed and before i found PMSC. it's nice for what it is, but you can't do any self-defense training or anything like that. just static shooting. it also gets crowded on weekends, and i witnessed some scary crap from time to time.
i have heard that there were issues with PMSC back in the day, but things have changed. i have now been a member for about 2 years. i honestly can't think of what else you could ask for in a club (with the exception of being able to shoot after 9PM)
nice facilities. good people. practical shooting friendly (but also bulls-eye friendly, archery friendly, trap friendly, hunter friendly, fisherman friendly) meaning you can actually practice realistic self-defense shooting.
unless you are looking for a club that is really a bar where people go to drink and maybe shoot once a year, PMSC is a great club these days.F*S=k

Re: looking for range, land, anywhere to shoot
depends on what you want, i guess.
not sure what charm you are talking about...or what BS...but PMSC now has numerous practical shooting bays which members can use on their own, the indoor range is accessible to members anytime between 9AM and 9PM (local ordinances do not allow shooting between 9PM and 9AM), it has a nice rifle range, trap, archery, etc.
most other clubs seem to have stupid rules like you can't practice drawing and shooting from a holster, can't shoot on the move, etc. i guess if you just want to sight in a deer rifle, that stuff doesn't matter, but you can do that at PMSC as well.
and it's only $60 a year...i'm surprised other places are cheaper than that.F*S=k
