~ Marlin Model 336 Caliber .357 Magnum Questions
Couple of questions for the Marlin lever gun fans.
1.) Does Marlin still make the Model 336 in caliber .357 magnum?
2.) Can caliber .38 Special be run through a .357 magnum Model 336?
Thought about getting a .44 mag Model 336, but already have a 45-70 Guide gun and the .357 seemed more practical.
Thanks in advance . . .

Re: ~ Marlin Model 336 Caliber .357 Magnum Questions
I don't recall Marlin making a 336 in .357. I know they make the 1894 in .357 magnum. Specifically, the 1894c. They also have a limited run of the 1894css which is stainless steel. Those are hard to come by, though the rumor is that Marlin will be adding that model to their regular line-up next year.

Re: ~ Marlin Model 336 Caliber .357 Magnum Questions
Hello: Thank for the info . . .
Noticed a discussion of the Marlin lever gun in .357 magnum on another board. Was surprised to know the existence . . .
I need to go onto the Marlin web site and see what's currently offered. Have a .357 wheelgun and a matching carbine would be quite handy. Still kicking my own can for selling that Marlin 336 in .35 Remington.
Have become a huge Marlin fan . . .

Re: ~ Marlin Model 336 Caliber .357 Magnum Questions
The newest Pumas offered by Legacy Sports are a lot more expensive now that they're being made by Chiappa. Rossi is importing their model 92 again and it's much more economical (by about half).
I've yet to shoot a model 92 that didn't need some sort of action job or something to make it run smoothly. I'm looking into getting a Rossi for my wife in .357, but the first thing that's getting done is it's getting sent off to Steve Young for one of his action jobs.

Re: ~ Marlin Model 336 Caliber .357 Magnum Questions
Henry makes a great .357 lever gun. I have one in .357 and .45 and have no complaints.

Here's a picture of my Marlin 1894cp. It's a fun little and light shooter. As others have said, they don't make a 336 but they do have the 1894.

Here's my Marlin...
(Click on the image for more pics.)
It's old, and in rough shape, but I absolutely LOVE it.
I too, wanted a lever gun to go with a wheel gun - I still need the wheel gun though.
As for your question about shooting .38s, yes, you can, IF they will load properly. Some rifles are more picky than others, and some ammo works better than others from what I've learned.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: ~ Marlin Model 336 Caliber .357 Magnum Questions
Thank all for the replies and good info.
That .357 caliber rifle must be one ass kicken gun.
Those Marlin and Henry lever guns are quite fine American made goods Here's the question now . . . What is the actual difference between the Marlin model 336 and the 1894? Also, is the Model 1894 available in a carbine or only full length rifle?
And while I think of it . . . would be interested to find out when my Marlin 45-70 guide gun was made. Believe it to be an early edition as the serial number is up on the tang and starts with the three zeroes . . . . " 000 " followed by as recalled, five numbers. Also, it has the ported barrel.
There must be a Marlin lever gun forum someplace.

Oh, and I'm no expert on the various models, but I did note that the 336 models have the curved pistol grip, and the 1894 has the straight grip.
Aside from that, I don't know the difference.

Currently, the .357 only seems to be offered in carbine length.(18.5" barrel)
I like that mine doesn't have the checkering on the stock... looks more "authentic". Also, the older guns have no safety.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
