    Default " a 38 that also shoots 357s"

I was pricing ammo today at Tropp in Elizabethtown when the guy next to me was asking one of the workers some questions. He eventually told him that he had a 38 caliber revolver that also shoots 357s. This just seemed funny to me so I thought Id share. The employee, by the way, recommended 38 spl. for the range and 38 +Ps for carry. Not my choice btw. Id go 357 fmj for range and 357 hp for carry.

i always thought it was the other way around, 357 can shoot 38... And if a 38 could shoot a 357, I think that would be called a 357..

Strapped, Yea I think you got it right, A .357 can handle .38, but a .38 can not handle a .357.
they're selling make believe and we don't buy that here

I don't think 10mm will work in my 9mm, and I can't find any 8mm to try it.
Anyone know where I can get a box?

I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Could be a J fr- ish snubbie that is chambered in .357, but to have a degree of control or non-pain he prefers to shoot .38s from it.

But our well known .38 Special IS a .357 bullet. It's called a .38 because the original one used a heel type bullet that was the same diameter as the case, which was .38. The type of bullet was changed as was the bore diameter though the designation stayed the same.

The .460 S&W Magnum can fire the .454 Casull and the .45 Long Colt. The new .327 Magnum can fire the .32 H&R Magnum, .32 S&W Long and the .32 S&W. The .22lr can also (depending on the gun) fire .22 Long and .22 Short. I believe some can also fire the little .22 CB rounds too but don't quote me on that.

Backwards compatability can be fun sometimes. Lol.

he had a 38 caliber revolver that also shoots 357s.

I have a 44 special that also shoots 44 magnums!!!!!!

There are older 38 and 44 special revolvers that were made before the magnums and have no shoulder cut in the chamber to prevent loading with magnums. There was no need as there were no magnums.

I have seen older 38 specials where the shoulder in the chamber has worn and if it has worn enough and the 357 brass is sized down to minimum dimensions, the 357s will chamber if the OAL is short enough.

There are also cheap 38 specials out there that don't have shoulders cut and 357s will fit if the OAL is short enough.

To shoot magnums in any of these guns is foolish and you stand the chance of turning your revolver into a grenade. Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a side note 357 Mags will also shoot 38 S&W, but since that ammo is more expensive than 38 special few use it. Also 45 long colt revolvers will shoot 410 shot shells.
