Default Can a leftie shoot a rightie miltary rifle?

I'm thinking about attending a CMP shoot soon to try out a military-style rifle and learn something new. I've never shot a semi-auto rifle left-handed, though. Can a left-handed shooter safely and effectively shoot right-handed Garand or AR type rifle? Are there any types of military rifles better or worse for this sort of situation (SKS, AK, etc)?

    Thanks

Yep. I've taught south paws to shoot on an SKS before no problem. In fact the AK is easier to reload if you're a lefty IMHO :P
Just because 'perfect' is impossible does not mean we should settle for 'broken'.

With the AR you may just have to get used to the brass flying right in front of your face. if you are serious about getting into it however Stag does make lefty uppers. They just drop right on top of and AR lower but eject to the left.

The Brunton Bump (AKA- brass deflector), was developed for the A2 series of the M16/AR15 just for lefties.

As long as you use anything but an A1 upper you're good to go!

Sure. Being a leftie doesn't preclude someone from going to war.... and you gotta shoot a gun to go to war

    .... Unless you're a chaplain.

Believe it or not , some of the best shots in history were lefties, Craig Boddington is a lefty and he were a Colonel in the marine corp.

    I own, Ak's, Sks's , Mini 14 , L1A1, Gsg 5, Ar's Mauser Bolt Actions etc, and it never botters me one bit, and i'm a lefty.

Yea, and they make a very nice AR. I'm a southpaw, and have a Bushmaster AR, and had no trouble shooting it. I,m a retired service member and did my time in Vietnam, using a military issued M16, and was quite proficient. I liked the AR and always wanted a left handed model. After much research I purchased a Stag 2TL. Great weapon. I reciently installed an Eotech 512 and a 3X magnifier. WOW, I love it. But don't think you have to get a lefty. I just wanted one for me. But come to think about it my Bushmaster just sits in the gun safe now. I wouldn't even worry about a deflector, at least for me, as the m/t's just plunked out and I never even noticed them.
