Re: 1 week
what can I say? we're a quiet county....unless you count Aliquippa and it's efforts to resemble Pittsburgh in violence, or New Brighton and people shooting stolen handguns across the river at Beaver Falls, or Beaver Falls where the cops are dumb enough to hide in the trees to watch the men on the New Brighton side miss the tree stump they're shooting at and wonder why there are bullets flying past them

NEW BRIGHTON - Beaver Falls police said they found themselves under fire Wednesday evening from a man firing a gun across the Beaver River from New Brighton.

New Brighton Area police charged Harold T. Roser Jr., 46, of 817 Second St., New Brighton, with reckless endangerment, illegal firearms possession and receiving stolen property.
According to a report by New Brighton police Sgt. Ronald Walton, Beaver Falls police responded to an area along the Beaver River at Eighth Street in the city for a report of shots being fired.
Beaver Falls police Capt. James Martin and patrolmen
Justin Schlie, Eric Humbert and David Johnson arrived, and Martin reported that the gunfire seemed to be coming from the New Brighton side of the river, and that it was continuing.
Martin "also reported that officers were hearing the distinct sounds of bullets traveling above them and in close proximity to their location," Walton said.
Walton went to the New Brighton side of the Beaver River, by the old 10th Street bridge, and found three men walking by the 10th Street dam. Walton's report said they were identified as Roser, Charles Kati IV and Donavan H.
Buckley, no age or address listed.
Walton said that when he asked the men whether anyone had a gun, Kati and Buckley said no, but Roser hesitated. He then said he had a gun in his pocket, and Walton took a 9mm handgun from Roser's right front pants pocket. The gun had an empty magazine and was warm to the touch, Walton said.
Kati had 20 spent shell casings, Walton said in the report. All three men were taken into custody and taken to the New Brighton police station for questioning.
Roser admitted that he had been firing the gun into a tree along the river and said Kati and Buckley also fired the gun at the tree.
Walton said that when he went back to the river, he found a tree on the New Brighton side with multiple bullet holes in it, along with an empty box of 9mm ammunition.
The area of the tree lined up with where the Beaver Falls officers were standing on the opposite side of the river, Walton said.
Walton said police learned that the gun, owned by Thomas Woods, no address listed, had been reported stolen to New Brighton police on June 21; Walton's report didn't have additional information about that theft. Roser told Walton that he had bought the handgun from an unnamed man about a month ago for $150.
Roser was the only one charged in the incident. He remained in the Beaver County Jail on Thursday, unable to post $50,000 cash bond set by District Judge William
Livingston.
