Default Prescription/Non-prescription Anti Depressants and Gun Ownership

    Hey there guys,

Someone I know has a few guns, and wants to get more into it, but they might need to go on either Mood elevators or Perscription/Non-prescription antidepressants. Will that effect their ability or right to own firearms?

How about PICS? They also are a C&R holder.

    Thanks!

IANAL or a Dr. either, but I believe that unless the person has been involuntarily committed to a mental institution, taking prescription anti-depressants will not hurt his chances of getting a LTCF or passing the PICS to buy a gun.

Look at the LTCF application and the state and federal paperwork for transferring a gun and you will see what the prohibiting factors are, including being committed to a mental institution...but no mention of anti-depressants.

No one can cite a law that doesn't exist. A person's prescription meds plays no part in the issuance of a LTCF. All you have to do is look on the form. Does it ask you what meds you are currently taking? Does it ask for your medical records?

    No? There's your answer.

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Well, I wasnt sure if medical records were part of PICS. How can they know about one being in a metal institution, but not any major prescription meds?

Ahhhhhh. Just checked the 4473, and it says "Depressants". Wow, my memory is going at 20. Thought it said "Antidepressants". Haaaaa.

    Thanks guys!
