    Question Caliber choice for shtf...

Background: Carry an LCP(.380) and a Sig P226 in .40.

I have found that for everyday carry, the P226 is a little big so I want to get something a little smaller and more concealable.

I'm just going back and forth here, I really like the .40 cartridge, have dies and lots of ammo, but for a shtf situation I guess I should "diversify my portfolio" so to speak. I'm thinking 9mm just because of its popularity and availability during a distressed situation.

I guess my question is, do you feel I would be best served by adding the 9mm to my arsenal or go another route, say .45 or something as far as shtf type scenarios go (ie. ammo availability). Thanks all...

Hahaha I'm talking ammo availability you jerk! I guess if I went the .45 route I'd get one of those little 1911 clones...which I'm not opposed to...

    This is gunna Get GOod.....

You are correct for thinking 9mm in a SHTF kinda outcome it is a Mil Round same as 556. The 9mm is really not that bad for Defence its No .40S&W or .357Sig or 45Acp but it has its advantages among the Users. I am sure this will be a Good Topic as long as it dosent become a caliber Debate..

I kind of feel I did things backwards...I shoulda bought my p226 in 9mm and had my main ccw in .40 but hindsight is 20/20. I guess one positive is more capacity in my ccw...as they say "shots on target"...

Let me ask you a more fundamental question: why do you think you'd need a different caliber for SHTF scenarios as for typical CCW? What's different about them such that your sidearm's caliber would need to change?

My approach would be start by asking myself basic questions like this.

The Taurus Millenium Pro 45 is a decent compact 45. I like mine, it's not a Sig or a Glock, but for less than $400 new you can't beat it..

And if 9mm is for girls, than 380 is for children!! J/K

I don't think there's anything wrong with a .40 & as you said, you're already set up for reloading. As far as ammo availability; just buy more .40 brass & reload some surplus for the shtf situation.

On the other hand, you KNOW you wanna' buy a new gun, so why not just get one each: 9mm & .45.

Yeah; this thread will probably get interesting.
