Default Quirks of speech, or how we say what we do, but in error

My dad always has had two funny ones. One was the inability to say the word "sentence." It's always come out "sent-ness." I don't know why. It just seems to be ingrained. The other one is him pronouncing a Swedish brand of motor-car. It isn't a Volvo, but, instead, a "vulva." On that one, mirth has definitely ensued before.

    For this guy, it's "ambidextrious."

For the life of me, I cannot say worchestershire. I always get the sauce part right.

I'm from Upstate New York originally, so I pronounce "Worcester" as "Wooster." ("oo" like "book," not "oo" like "roof")

I've never heard two people from Worcester township pronounce it the same way.. and almost never correctly.

Also, Whitpain township. I say "whit-pan" because the "pain" is the french word for bread, and that's just what it reminds me of. Locals say "Whit-PAIN," which is also wrong. The correct pronunciation of "Whitpain" is like "Whippin."

Is it still a quirk if I pronounce something correctly and everyone else pronounces it incorrectly?

My SMIL is from Watertown by way of Camillus, so I understand COMPLETELY.

And I thought that it would have been more like "WOOSTAH," or is that strictly a cheddah cheese Yankee thing?

    It's pronounced "nucular" right? LOL!!

I used to work for the Penn State Nuclear Engineering Dept. That was always an amusing joke.

I have an ingrande inability to say thank. Instead it always comes out in a manner that gets me dirty looks. At least I get the "k" sound right at the end.

Fuck you, fuck you very much.

You're thinking pure New England... MA, CT, RI, NH, VT, ME... the accent gets much thicker the closer you get to Boston.
