But almost always, I am very aware of what is going on around me and what people are doing, where they are looking etc. You do have to keep that situational awareness with you as much as possible.

Never take for granted - oh, it is only out to the curb or the dumpster, only around the corner. Don't make your decision to carry or not be based on "onlys".

The problem with situational awareness you only see what you see, no matter how hard you try. If someone is watching you planning on ambushing/robbing/assaulting you can only suspect them and what they plan to do,but you never know what is going to happen until it happens.
So even the most watchful, paranoid person can only be so prepared, never 100% prepared.
