    Default 30-30 loads

Does anyone have a powder charge amount for the Winchester 150 grain Power Point flat nose bullet for a 30-30? Hopefully Hodgdon or IMR powder. Thanks

I'm not big into reloading but run Speer 170 flat nose out of my Marlin 336 on top of 34.5 gr of IMR 4350 for 1915 muzzle vel. I only run 4350 because it's what I also use for my 06. Deer don't seem to mind.

Some Speer info. out of their #10 book

150gr flat nose or spitzer CCI 200 primers for these first 3 loads
    H205 38.0 2088 MV
    36.0 1920MV

    IMR 4831 36.5 1922 MV
    34.5 1810 MV

    IMR 4350 36.0 2225 MV
    34.0 2117 MV

    H335 33.0 2304 MV --use CCI #250 magnum primers
    31.0 2149 MV 250

Not sure what difference there would be if any using Winchester bullets.

My Win Mod 94 worked best with the 170 grain bullet, but the 150 gr JFP worked best for me at 27.3 grains of IMR 3031.

Recommended starting load is 26.5 gr, and work up from there.

    10xammo,

you're lucky, .30-30 is one of those cartridges that likes almost anything you can stuff in it...bullet, powder, or primer.

if you use a powder measure, ball powders are the best choice; winchester's 748 and hogdon's h335 are pretty hard to beat. alliant's re 7 isn't a ball, but is fine enough to work well through volumetric measures, too.

    10xammo ......

I use 32.0 gr. of IMR4895 in my 30-30 with 150 gr. Sierra bullets. It's an accurate load that's safe in my rifle. I don't shoot it much anymore, but it's a fun rifle to shoot.

I always recommend using a heavy crimp on 30-30 handloads. Most 30-30s are more accurate with a heavy crimp, and it seems like a good idea when using a tubular magazine. I really like the Lee collet crimp die best, because for thin necked cases (like the 30-30) it won't buckle the case neck. That's a very commom problem with 30-30 handloads. If you buckle the case neck, the symptom is that your rounds won't chamber all the way.
