Drive the mag home.... slide released?
Newb here, so this may be a simple question, but I was shooting a Sig P250c the other day and I drove the mag in with some force... and the slide which was locked back released itself into battery.
What gives?

Take it back to the shop you bought it from if they have a Sig Armorer. The shop may be able to replace the springs and remedy the problem.
Every year or so I take my autos to get the springs changed (all of them) to insure functional excellence. The spring kits are very cheap and easy to purchase.

However, I could not find one for the 250 on sigs website, yet I am sure an armorer could get one.

Re: Drive the mag home.... slide released?
Normal. It is called a "slam load" to those who shoot under stress. On a Glock Ive always had it load a round. Always. Alot of training out there has you automatically cycle the weapon if you have a slam load. Ive had my Beretta not cycle a round on a slam. Not a position you want to be in.
But you do not need to have your gun looked at. It just happens when you drive a mag home hard.Last edited by PAfarmboy; September 15th, 2009 at 08:15 PM. Reason: spelling

Re: Drive the mag home.... slide released?
Yea I'd kind of like that too actually...I don't like a slide release that takes too much pressure to work anyhow...

A lot of pistols do that. It's only a concern if it doesn't chamber a round. Most will. Almost every 92 I've shot will do it fairly easy. A couple of the Glocks I've owned would with a good slam.

Re: Drive the mag home.... slide released?
Does it do it if you insert the mag with "driving it home"? If a normal mag insertion doesn't do this, then I wouldn't worry about it. Not sure why you did it with force (too much TV watching cop shows?) but it should be inserted comfortably but not forcefully.
