Staining my AK 47 Furniture
This is my first time ever doing anything "wood" related so.. here it goes!
This is basicly a step by step of how I did it.
1. Tore it down to its core and tapped any metal that I wanted to keep clean.
2. Sanded the wood down before Staining with 300+ grain sandpaper.
3. Applied a light coat of stain with a paint brush and let it sit for about 4-5 hours.
4. Applied the first thin layer of Satin Poly with a another paint brush, Let that dry for about 8 hours.
5. Sanded Lightly to prep surface with 300+ grain sand paper for next thin layer of Satin poly. Doing this ensures it is distributed evenly and takes to the wood. It also eliminates any bubbles, streaks or clumps left by the first coat & Paintbrush. Let that dry over night and into the next day this ensures that it drys hard.
(8-15 hours).
6. Optional: apply a third coat of satin poly, repeating step 5. doing more than three coats can cause it to look cloudy and undesirable. (JIMMYC308)
7. Reasemble and enjoy.
Before
wood stain numbah 215!
Clear satin poly
Everything stripped with stain applied
Poly applied x2 coats

Looks good, nice job.
I did the same to the fore-end of a Yugo M70 underfolder.
Three coats of poly and it looks like very smooth.
You'll probably hear how it's 'No Go' to use wood stain and poly from the boiled Linseed Oil bunch.
But, it's an AK, it looks good and that's that.So this is how liberty dies...with thunderous applause.

I stained 3000 sq. feet of hardwood flooring with that color and let me tell you that it looks much better on your gunstocks.
