    Default Lewistown Pistol Club hosting IDPA Postal Match

    Lewistown Pistol Club (http://www.lewistownpistolclub.org) is hosting a six stage IDPA match on the 27th, the last Sunday of September.

    This match will consist of the four postal match stages IDPA put out this year. Additionally, there will be two other stages, for a total of six stages for the match.

    After the IDPA match, we will be offering a side match consisting of two rifle/handgun stages. We will offer two classes for the rifle match, semi auto class and pump/lever class.

    Pre-match safety brief begins at 9:45am, match starts at 10am. Cost is $10.00 for club members and $15.00 for non-members. The side match will cost an additional $5.00. For more information contact the match director at matchdirector@lewistownpistolclub.com

    I have never been involved in IDPA, however this match is close enough that I would like to participate.

    Do I have to be a member of IDPA and the pistol club prior to the event?

    Thanks for any info.

    Beerhunter;
    No you need not be a member of IDPA or the Lewistown Pistol Club (althugh it is a great club).

    For IDPA you will need a handgun in a safe holster, such as one would use for concealed or field carry. Also, a spare magazine or two readily available for reloads, (most stages would require only one reload but having two is safer).
    A cover garment is required so that the handgun and spare ammo are not visible to the casual observer before use, (this can be as simple as an unbuttoned and untucked shirt, although many wear a vest to cover their side arm). IDPA is defensively oriented as such it has useful rules of engagement much like one would want to use in a defensive encounter.

    As far as the side match is concerned, there will be two stages, both requiring both a handgun and rifle. A marlin or Winchester lever action is fine AR or AK semis might be ever so slightly quicker.

    This might be a great first match; but be warned IDPA is seriously addictive, and using a rifle will only make it more fun.
