Default 9mm Round Nose Subsonic Ammo Available

I think this is probably better in the Title II forum but the mods can move if they wish.

Ammunition to go - 158gr Prvi
Midway USA - 158gr Fiocchi, my old standby and a little cheaper, but 4 box limit.

I am on the web checking ammo every week and at least once a month I do searches for new sources. I might have missed something, but this is the first round-nose 9mm subsonic I have seen available outside a gun show all year. I even mailed a free box to somebody I don't even know (shipping was more than the ammo) because he just got his MAC and supressor and couldn't find ammo. So, I thought this might be a development if you guys have had the same hard time finding this ammo that I have.

Just an FYI Matt Pallett from SWR has indicated that the Prvi 158gr stuff is NOT good and that it's use has resulted in at least 2 silencers being ruined. On the good note the Fiocchi is suppose to be really good.

sub-sonics never made sense to me, yes i understand they are quiet but, taking a 2500fps bullet (not 9mm) and under charging it to 9-1100fps ? i just cant grasp the concept. i saw a video of a guy with a 50bmg w/silencer, it was quiet but he used sub-sonics. whats the point? lobbing a chunk of lead that weighs 700gn's at 9-1100fps at a target 100yrds away seems like a good waste of a bullet.

While I do concur with doing that with say a 50bmg taking a 9mm and dropping it 100 or 200fps then I think it's fine or in the case of 9mm.

I think there are some cartridges where subsonic really has shined are the ones that were designed to be sub. Like the 300 whisper, designed for just that and it still has a high ballistic co-efficient.

But really... like you said, a subsonic loaded 50bmg... just throw a rock

Unless you would like to volunteer to get hit by a 700+gr piece of lead going 900 fps. Too each his own, its called hearing safe. No need for ear protection and all the many more reasons people use sub-sonic ammo.

invest in a silencer. no need for hearing protection with my ar15. its even quieter when not shooting near trees and other large objects.

9mm subsonic through an SMG is a really sweet thing. And dropping the velocity 150 fps or so does not really change the class of the round, especially since you bumped the mass slightly. Heck, most standard 147gr 9mm is subsonic. Unfortunately, most of it is also HP or FMJFN and that type of ammo is not the most reliable in some subguns.
