Slant brake on Yugo AK?
Why is the slant brake on the Yuko AK's not exactly centerd top to bottom but is kind of offset , rotated to the side a bit ? Is it a design feature on the Yugos? All the ones i have seen is not straight from top to bottmom . the slant is off a bit???
Thanks nyman

Not sure why, but yes that is standard config for a Yugo AK.
Just because 'perfect' is impossible does not mean we should settle for 'broken'.

They are designed that way to stop lateral and the climbing motion. Since you naturally rotate slightly as you lift with say (fully automatic fire from an AK) as they were designed. It is slanted to suppress that movement. They are ALL that way.
It stops this --------> /

My Polish underfolder is the same, tilted is the most effective position.
So no, you didn't get one installed by a drunk Slav.

Re: Slant brake on Yugo AK?
Yeah, these guys are right on. It seems like a crude design, but it works.
A friend of mine from Russia spent time in the Red Army in the 70's and when he saw my AK's with the slant brakes he didn't recognize what they were. Apparently they didn't all have them.
He said that they were trained to aim slighty down and to the left of the center of the target because the gun moves up and to the right when fired.
The brake, when lined up on the bottom left of the barrel forces the gun down and to the left, making this unnecessary. It also prevents the escaping gas from kicking up dirt in the shooters line of sight when firing from the prone position.

And believe it or not... they are relatively effective flash hiders. Seems impossible. I mean, it's just a tilted hunk of metal right? But it kills about 75-80% of the flash too. No fireball. Just one of those flying spark looking discharges.
Maybe 5% worse than the AK74 style brake. Pretty impressive for such a simple design.
Considering even a US made one is like $8. You aren't going to get much better until you get into PWS money. Which is about $60 for the brake, and $100 for the brake/hider. And even then, there's still something to be said about a brake that doesn't pound the shooter. Which the slant brake doesn't.
I do have the PWS brake. It IS extremely effective. But it costs $.
