    Default Magnetized gun barrels?

While there is no such thing as a stupid question, there is such a thing as an inquisitive idiot and I just might be one. I'm thinking about buying a magnetized rotary gun rack from www.gun-racks.com and I can't help but wonder: could constant exposure to magnets on the gun rack eventually magnetize my gun's barrels? Assuming such an occurrence is possible, would there be any accuracy issues or other ill side-effects associated with a magnetized barrel?

Lead and copper are non ferrous metals. A magnetized barrel would have no effect. Now, steel core ammo may be a different story. I still can't see it having any side effects though.

My concern would not be with how it shoots---- The amount of magnetism you'd need to affect a bullet leaving the gun would be incredible!!

However, I would be concerned with all the other material that might be attracted to my gun and cause scratches... not only larger items like steel keys, but very small dirt and metal shavings or filings or whatever that might 'stick' to it.....

I'm not sure how long it would have to be exposed to the rack before it would actually become magnetized..... if at all....

While exposure to a magnet can sympathetically magnetize any ferrous metal, the effect of the magnetization on a barrel will likely be extremely weak and fade quickly (seconds or less) from removing the barrel from the magnetic source.

OK, it is officially confirmed: I am indeed an inquisitive idiot. I just read the company's FAQ and they claim it will not magnetize barrels. I hope they're right.
