Default What if scenario/ based in reality

Watching tv, hanging out around house, 2-4 mid afternoon. Neighbor across street w/ 2nd floor balcony starts yelling loudly, Freedom, Freedom, several obscenities, on and off for about 1/2 hour. He has lived there 1-2 years, never really said more than hello. Next thing he screams is anyone that carries a gun on their hip, as far as I'm concerned is a f*** ing p**$y........
I go onto my porch he reentered his apartment, I return inside. 1/2 hour later I walk down a block to park chat with some other neighbors, with young children, conversation leads to neighbor yelling for last hour. Then rude neighbor walks past and again states "there's the p**$ with a gun".Hey hows it going tough guy, yea you the man with your big gun...
I THEN ASK WHAT DID YOU SMOKE TODAY?
He yells what did you say?
    I restate my question,
he restates what 'd you say mother*****
and from across street charges straight at me from a good 70 feet full sprint expelling well intended expletives...
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN REACTION?

personally I would have called the police at the beggining when he is shouting obscenities into the street for 1/2 hour.

so, I cant answer your ultimate question here, as it never should have gone that far, and I def wouldnt have started a argument with him on the street if it had.

    walk away

    be quiet

call the cops, we pay taxes for a reason.

eh, probably nothing to be honest. In front of an audience, it's always more impressive to under-react than to over-react. And a guy who's charging you full speed from that far away is going to be pretty easy to deflect.

How stupid will he look when you just side-step, then say all casual like "I guess he's right about not needing the gun, I mean, I'd never have to defend myself around here or anything..."

    ^This.

All the Situational Awareness in the world will do you no good if you don't take appropriate action at the earliest opportunity to end the situation as peacefully as is humanly possible.

While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

    All good valid points.
My thoughts consisted of ignore the pos. The police have better things to deal with than neighbors bickering about he said/ they said.
Upon him becoming vulgar while I was in the park were the kids were, my statement wasnt exactly calming ( he was wearing a t-shirt that had the 4-20 or 20-4 something to do with smoking or whatever)
To attack someone for asking what are you smoking, hmmmmmmmmm...
At this point I did draw my OC !!!!!
    (Oleoresin Capsicum/ pepper spray)
He decidely changed his point of view at which point I did call for police. He vehemently apologized and stated his overreactions. Yes hind sight being 20/20 the statement was somewhat antagonizing, although attack worthy I dont see. As far as calling at the beginning, I dont think it would have been worthwhile.

What he said. Avoidance and/or ignoring the guy would be my tactic. I can imagine myself wanting to saying something like "I've been called worse....by better" as I made my way further from the problem. But I doubt I would, I'd just want to avoid further contact. Truly, the event wouldn't have happened at all if the police had been called after the first few minutes of ranting. You were obviously his target and he was goading you into his warped agenda. His shirt would have told the cops a lot about his thought processes.
