    steel inserts?
it appears to have the same type of steel locking block in the frame as the glock.
in fact, the block is much more massive than the one in my g17, but then, thats a 9mm.
trigger linkage is also thicker than the glock
pic below is my XD45 5 " model frame.

or are you talking of some other kind of steel inserts in the Glock as opposed to the XD?

either way, the average shooter wont wear one out:-)

Glocks have two sets of steel inserts in the frame that the slide rides on. One at the rear and another just forward of the trigger guard at the dust cover.

either way, the average shooter wont wear one out:-)
    Agreed.

oh, I see, the itty bitty frame rail inserts:-)
well, the XD slide rides on the "rails" that are part of the front locking block, and the rear fire control group insert.
larger, and thicker, and longer and stronger all around, the glock has issues in Federal drop tests with sideways hits, the metal inserts break.
    unknown about the XD tho.

    either way, i like both.

I have been on a tactical team in the USN for a while and i like the glock better than the 1911 or the usp but i love the XD i shoot better and so does my wife the xd is milder but a glock fan would have troubble with the trigger break for abot the first 6 or so rounds.

the XD45 looks much cooler also; the G21 looks like, well...a glock

I have no experience with any Glocks besides handling a couple of them. One of the main reasons I didn't purchase the Glock was because I don't really care for the grip angle, and plus Springfield's ads were just about on every other page of any magazine telling me to buy their product.

I bought and LOVE the XD!
I would bet my life on either, the XD felt better to me, balanced better and pointed more natural.
I do not believe you would go wrong with either of'em!

I also agree that the XD is more accurate, fits the hand better, and the internal parts seem to be made better, and the XD has higher capacity magazines.

OTOH, the finish on the XD is not as nice as the Glock.

I say get both and do your own comparison each week at the range!

I had an XD 40 and didn't like it, just could not shoot it well so I sold it. I have a few various Glocks, one is the G20 in 10mm (same frame as .45). I like it very much and shoot it well. A friend has the standard XD 45 and I shot a mag or two through it. I liked that gun very much and also shot it well...Go figure. I would probably like the Tactical even more as I prefer larger handguns. Won't know 'till you shoot 'em!!

I'll chime in for the Glock.

The G21 is my favorite Glock, and it is just as accurate as my Colt XSE 1911.

The G21 is hard to conceal, but not impossible. I have slender hands with long fingers but the grip frame is not for everyone.

The grip safety on the XD is not a selling point for me. Many forget that the XD striker is cocked to the rear and the grip safety is a added bonus. The Glock striker is forward and under little tension...a grip safety is not needed.

All newer generation 3 Glocks have a loaded chamber indicator. It's the raised "bump" on the extractor. So easy, even Stevie Wonder could use it. Older Glock's can be changed over for minimal dollars.

Glock triggers can be altered easily and very cheap. No such thing yet for the XD.
Glock factory parts can be purchased almost anywhere on the net. Every part but a slide and frame. XD's must go back to the factory as Springfield won't release parts even to Brownells or Gunparts Corp.

Failure to fire issues have been fixed with the new G21 trigger bar. I even stuck one in my 2nd generation gun that had no issues...just to be safe.

To me it all comes down to how it feels in your hand. I'm sticking with the G21 for many reasons, but I would have no problems carrying a XD. The XD is a solid handgun.
