I'm no AR guru but it looks like that is the parts that you need. I'm not sure how critical that mis-spaced gas block would be to the gun though. Somebody who builds their uppers themselves would know that better.

I kinda like that spikes lower with the extra markings on it

Brownells has some excellent video. Of course there is a sales pitch but it is a worthwhile video. AR's are not difficult at all.

It sounds like it would be just fine, they just drilled the gas port in the wrong place. THey then decided to throw on a FF rail and sell them at a discount to recoup some of what they'd otherwise lose. Like they said, the main thing is that you will not be able to switch it to regular handguards. Looks like other than that it should be good to go.

You still need the Stock, Buffer Tube, Buffer, and Spring.

    Two things

    1. I would not buy that upper. It has been drilled wrong and will require a special gas tube and unless you free float it you wont be able to swap out handguards - plus, they are using utg parts.

    2. While tempting, i would / will not buy anything from spikes. They were one of the first to start doubling their prices when O man got into office. I will not now or ever purchase from these type people.

Good luck though. It's your money and your choice on how to spend it.

Very valid points, but as far as #1 goes it has already been assembled free floated and if it ever somehow needs replacing he can just cut down a midlength or rifle gas tube. However for a first rifle on the cheap, with a FF (I will defer to your opinion of UTG parts here as I have no knowledge of them) even if they are not the best parts it is hard to pass up at that price point.
As far as #2 I only just clicked that second link and I must say I do like that it is 1/2 price AKA about what they were before the big rush. *LOL*

The gas port location itself doesn't bother me. My FSB turned low-pro gas block will be covered with a tube shortly anyway. I don't like the added 'Murphy factor' of a non-standard gas tube though. Also, for a social rifle, I want a chrome lined barrel. Is the barrel gov't profile, or heavy under the [heavy] handguard?
