With Houses Of Worship Constantly Under Threat, Former NYC Cop Offers Class Designed To Keep People Inside Safe

NEW YORK (CBS) ―

Some might call it the "God squad," others a proactive approach to safety.

A rabbi in Queens is beginning a training program aimed at keeping places of worship worry free.

Inside a Kew Gardens place of prayer is a team of experts whose goal is to make synagogues safer by teaching martial arts, how to use a gun and protecting worshipers if someone came in with guns blaring.

It's the brainchild of Rabbi Gary Moscowitz, a former New York City cop who said synagogues are natural targets.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne says Moscowitz was fired from the force in the early 1990s, but claimed not to know details. Regarding the Rabbi's criticism of the NYPD, Browne cryptically added, "Blessed are the tight of lip, for they shall resist speaking ill of the ill-informed."

It seems the biggest threads to Synagogues in NY, recently, has been the government arresting their Rabbi's. How will guns protect them from that?

I think it's great that their taking their defense into their own hands but the end of the video were the table collapses is hilarious.

This is awesome, great to see that people are worried for their own protection and realize that police can't be every where all the time. Unfortunately its not enough to make criminals and psychopaths to second guess their criminal tendencies.

You just need to prove you have a viable business which could be a target of a robbery.

Hell, where else but NYC can an adult (Rabbi) put his mouth on and suck the blood from an infant's penis and not be arrested. Jews have a lot of clout in NYC.
