    Default Thinking about a Dobermann

I had a home security "incident" not too long ago. I'm normally a heavy sleeper, and it was pure luck that I was having trouble sleeping that particular night. That being said, I'm looking for a good early warning system and it has been a while since I had a dog and the Doberman seems like it would fit the bill. I've previously had a Collie, a lab mix and a Boston terrier, but I'd be curious to hear what some of the Dobe owners out there have to say about the breed.

Go to the local shelter, and adopt a dog from them.

Any breed will work for what you need.

Those shelter dog are better sometimes. Once they are in a loving home, they will defend it with their lives.

Dobermans are not trustworthy dogs, they have a medical condition. Something about their brains growing and not their skulls, which causes some sort of hemorrhage resulting in the dog "freaking out", the end result is useally someone (like the owner) getting bit.

want to back that up? my brother has had 4 dobes in his life and they are great dogs. I guess you think all pits are bad too?
If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.

I heard the same from people who have owned Dobermans.

Not sure if you have kids but, my choices for a good dog for protection would be an Akita, Rotti, or a Cane Corso Mastiff. They are very protective of children and their sizes do make an impression. And they will stop someone quickly and effectively.

i agree with a shelter or rescue dog. our next dog will probably be some type of rescue. too many good dogs going to waste in the shelters. i wouldn't even be afraid to adopt a pitbull. all the pits at the dog park i go to are great dogs. like someone earlier in this post said if you give a shelter dog a loving home he'll defend you and your family to the end.

Bullshit! Never seen or heard of this happening. And yes, I've owned Doberman's.
