AR piston conversion kit
Anyone have any experience with these? http://www.copesdistributing.net/pro...oducts_id=1186
I really don't have any reliability issues with my carbine and I don't clean it nearly as much as i should, but it would be good to get rid of gas impingement for way cheaper than a POF or something of the like. I just wonder if anyone here has had problems with anything breaking or any reliability issues with it.

Re: AR piston conversion kit
I haven't done piston conversion personally, but my research in the past tend to point to the fact that after-market conversion can be problematic. The best option, again based on my readings, is to get a factory piston upper/AR because they have worked out all of the potential hiccups. I guess as long as you understand the potential limitations, it doesn't hurt to try.
The AA kit suppose to be better looking when it's done:

Re: AR piston conversion kit
I have no direct experience with the Adams Kit either. It is seems to be getting pretty good reviews though over at arfcom. I debated buying this kit to put on a DI AR or buying the Spikes Tactical dedicated upper that is built with this kit with input from Adams. I wound up buying an LWRCi instead. The only reason was that the local shop had one in stock at a good price.

Re: AR piston conversion kit
I think the biggest factor with the kits would be the skill of whoever installs it but I hear the PWS kit is pretty good as well.

Re: AR piston conversion kit
Being that you said your rifle runs now, I'd leave it well alone.
If this is one of many AR's you have, and you want to tinker with it...knock yourself out.
But if this is your go-to gun...don't mess around with the conversions. The piston AR hasn't proven itself yet, if you ask me.

Re: AR piston conversion kit
good point...it is my only AR, and is also my go-to as well, which is why I figured it wouldnt hurt to make it better. Not if theres going to be some kinks that still need to be worked out, I'm not putting my life in the hands of a system that no one really knows if its good or not yet.
I cant't seem to find many reviews either, probably because I don't have an arfcom account and can't search there.

Re: AR piston conversion kit
Here is a thread Adams posted on arfcom. Take a look. It is more than a year old, but the 45 pages goes up till a few days ago. There are some reviews in there plus some additional links.
