    Default $299, too much Glass?

Is $299 Leupold 3x9x42 too Much Glass for a Marlin .22 Mag Bolt Gun? I mean the Rifle only cost me $174 at K-Mart in 1994.

I just sick and tired of the BS with the cheap scopes.

The Gun will be use d for Small Game and general plinking of season.

    Thanks, Nyman

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Its more than I would spend. But I don't hunt.

I would say no, it's not too much. I don't think you can ever spend too much money on optics - especially optics you use to hunt with.

How much money have you pissed away on the cheap optics that you're not happy with? I say spend once cry once.

I'm into AR's and honestly, I don't bat an eye at spending 5-600 dollars on getting an Aimpoint or Eotech for them. I know there are knock offs that are 1/5th the cost but if I’m using my AR to defend life and limb, I want an optic that I know is going to run no matter what I put it through.

Same applies to a gun I would use to put food on the table. If that is the optic you like, I say go for it - again, spend once cry once.

The only concern I might have is what distance is the parallax set at? I think Leupold will reset it for you if you're doing a lot shooting at some other distance than what it is set for.

But other than that, it should do a bang up job. And if you don't like the combo, you can put the scope on another gun or sell it for nearly as much as you paid.

Usually 3-9 is a "deer scope" so i would imagine the parralax is set about at 75-100 yards, which is fine by me.

Thanks for the replies guys, appreciate your input.

I'm ALSO LOoKING AT at wally's a Bushnell 4-16 x50 for $134 with Ao, only problem is its made in China so i dont know if it will hold up over the long haul.

Mueller and Infinity have a lot of good feedback over at rimfirecentral.com. I won't comment on specifics, but for rimfire I would recommend a scope with adjustable objective like the Bushnell you are looking at.
I think the founding fathers meant exactly what they wrote: the government should not make any laws restricting the RIGHT of the people to 'hold or retain in one's possession' and 'hold or carry' guns and other weapons that would allow them to keep their government in line.

I would probably spend a little less and get a Burris or Bushnell Elite. I also think a 2-7 would be better on a .22

    Hi mrnyman

My 2 cents, your $300 Leupold is a long term investment and will be with you as long as you want it to and beyond even to your kids or nephews.

Cost benefit wise, if you shoot your .22 approx twice a month for the next 2 years it will have cost you ~ $6 a day

I agree with dk99358 it can always go onto your deer rifle in-season and back to the .22 afterward.

Motto "Get the most for what you can afford" since $300 seems to be in your budget I say go for it, you will have an excellent quality scope with a Full Lifetime Guarantee.

    Sabre ~!
