    Default Best Full Size/Combat Pistol?

Ok, so I have a glock 17 2nd gen. and am planning to upgrade to a 3rd gen. Before I do that I would like your input/suggestions for a very good and reliable full size combat handgun in 9mm. Reliability and accuracy are pretty much the only things I care about. Thanks for the help

No doubt, the Glock 17 has the edge in reliability. But, if you balance reliability with accuracy, my vote goes to the CZ 75. Out of the box, mine outshoots my Glock 17L (long slide). IMHO.

I gotta say that in a SHTF situation, the Nine I would grab is the CZ 75 or 85. However, if you include other calibers, then the Glock 21 is what sits in my nightstand.

Sort of like stars in a somewhat cloudy suburban sky?

Some folks swear by Glock, others at them. Some like SIG P226s, other P228s and P229s. Some folks are sold on Walther P99s, various CZs, and HKs such as P30s. If you'd like to be classically old-school, get a BHP.

What's your experience level like with firearms? Shooting different 9mm pistols would definitely help you narrow it down on your own and be more meaningful than listening to our anecdotes.

then you already have the best full size/combat pistol ever made, imho.

imho, that is a downgrade unless you want to put a light on it. the finger grooves were a step in the wrong direction.

there is no pistol out there that beats the glock 17's reliability. there may be some that match it (but none that at least yet have the track record to prove it), but none that beat it.

Since you have a glock.... your use to the grip angle you'd be better off sticking with that rather than learning a new grip

Me, I don't have one so I'd get a Springfield XD 9 tactical

This sums it up pretty well. I have both a 2nd and 3rd gen G17, if I could only keep one the 2nd gen would be it.

Which do you care about more, reliability or accuracy?

The G17 will run longer than you will, but there are more accurate things out there which may require more care and feeding over their lifetimes.

Since he said combat, I would guess reliability comes before accuracy. That is, of course, assuming that the pistols in question are accurate enough to kill. I would also assume that most pistols on the market today are accurate enough to kill. If they aren't, I have to wonder what they are still doing on the market. Yet another assumption, the OP only seems interested in semi-autos. Perhaps a poor assumption on my part. Regardless, I'll stick to semi-autos. You could do worse than a Glock 17.

Now, I will chime in and say that if you want a full size combat pistol, why would you choose 9mm? Personally, if I was going to pick a full size pistol, for combat, I would carry a Glock 20. That's just my opinion though!

    faster, more accurate follow-up shots.

and ammo is cheaper so you can afford to practice more--which translates into...faster, more accurate follow-up shots.
