S&W revolver and 50 yards

This Smith and Wesson K-22 revolver from 1953 has been my favorite .22 revolver for a long time, I find that it is the most accurate .22 I have shot.
6" barrel and well broken in.
I was at the range today and thought it would be fun to see how I do at 50 yards with it.
Well I was sitting, Elbows on table, 2 hand hold and NO rest or bags.
I think I did pretty good for 50 yards, The group is 3.25" and shot 3, 6 shot groups all withen 5", But this at 3.5" was the best.
I know I liked this gun!

Have you shot a .22 handgun at 50 yards? And if so, How did you do?

3.5" at 50 yards with a .22 and iron sights is no easy feat. No doubt the K22 is a very fine shooter, but you did your part as well!

Can't say I do too much with my 22lr revolver at 50 yards, well not that I keep track of, but great shooting! Especially with no rest.

Nice work. My dad's 1950's K-22 will do the same too. Those guns are far more accurate than the shooters.

Sure, it's the standard distance for Bullseye Slow Fire and International Free Pistol. One handed, no less! Your group would hold the black in both disciplines (solid Sharpshooter or Expert score). High Masters are freakish! Back in the day, your revolver was the standard Bullseye gun for the .22 match. Nowadays, pretty much everyone shoots an auto and a dot in Bullsey, mostly Euro-guns (Hammerli, Walther, Pardini). International is all iron sights, no dots allowed.

No surprise. When this revolver was built it was one of the premier handguns for Bullseye competitors. The slow fire stage of a bullseye match is fired at 50 yards, offhand (strong hand only, no support). In a 900 match a shooter will fire a total of 30 rounds (20 for the Slow Fire Match and 10 as part of the National Match Course). Timed and rapid fire events are fired at 25 yards.

You don't really appreciate the accuracy of a pistol or understand your own marksmanship skills until you shoot a strict Bullseye match.

With a handgun at 50 yards, I have difficulty hitting the earth.

Been there done that, for about 25 years. On the NRA Bullseye 50 yd. target the 10 ring is about 3.25 inches, a lot of the top shooters will shoot a 95 + on that target.

The International Free Pistol 50 yd. target has about a 2 inch 10 ring, a good score on that target would be 92 / 93.
Like RobW and Brick said, all of this target shooting is done with one hand.

Here's a tip for ya:
If you will be trying to shoot those scores two handed, or even off a rest, you will need much better ammo than American Eagle.

Pred, I think Smith & Wesson would be proud of you. At 50 yards, that would be pretty good shooting with a rifle with iron sites. I think you did awesome. I always target shoot with a revolver at 25 yards. Did you do that shooting single action or double action?
Just curious.

A decent target rifle off a rest should shoot much better than that.

I don't mean to bust anyone's bubble but the picture shown is what a shooter should expect from a good rifle and good ammo at 50 yds. The rifle that shot this 5 shot group was an old Winchester M-52-C made in 1955. The ammo was Eley 10-X.
