Default Vanity license plate... lost for ever??

I had a vanity plate '43CCKW' at one time. I still have the plate, but the dealer didn't transfer it, they gave me a new one (this was about 5 years ago).

I've been told that once a vanity plate is 'used' its gone forever?

What if its MY plate and I just want to put it on another vehicle?

    Any ideas?

You can just re-register it again. I've let registration expire on a vanity plate before...and then re-upped the registration online. No problems. It went through and I got the sticker a week or so later.
