An old fart's ramblings of the past

Background: I was drafted in the Army (extended involuntary) and was given several all expense paid vacations to SE Asia. I finally got my discharge in '68 and spent about 4 or 5 months healing from injuries suffered compliments of Uncle Sam.

While in the healing process I bought a junk 1950 Indian Chief with a 1300cc V-Twin engine and completely restored the old warrior in the space of about 5 months. This bike become my companion for more years than I want to remember.
AUGUST 15, 1969

Forty years ago today me, the old Chief, & Blue (a girl I asked to tag along) went to a three day party known as Woodstock.

About all I remember:
1. A few of the singers such as Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Santana, Canned Heat, CCR, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Blood Sweat & Tears, & Jimi Hendrix,
2. The rain
3. The mud
4. The terrible sanitation conditions
5. The totem pole with three faces (can only remember Jimi & Janis faces).
6. The mud
7. The parting
8. The booze, broads, & drugs
9. Nude Sunbathing
10. The mud
11. The lake where people cleaned up
12. Food Trucks that everyone pitched in to unload
13. Mudland Concession stands.
14. Pushing cars stuck in the mud

That was the best and/or worst party I have ever been to. Would I go again HELL YES!!!

How cool, I wish I could have been there but alas I was too young (born in 59) What a huge memory (no matter how fuzzy!) to be able to say you went to Woodstock. Thousands of people and nobody killed or beat anyone up, wouldn't work that way today sadly.

Things sure did change. I went to several weekend music festivals in the '70s. Anybody go to Music Alley? Anything that wasn't locked up was gone in the morning. Sucks when someone steals all your beer.
