Default Bulge in my hp ammo?

I'll try and get pictures up tommorow morning.

    I bought a 20rd box of 124gr +p speer gold dot, 9mm.

I just noticed when looking at them earlier, around where the bullet is seated inside the casing, it kind of bulges out and then dips back in where bullet ends.

I compared it side by side with my fmj and some federal hydra-shok and neither of those rounds have this bulge.

    whats up?

Could wait for pics, but is it all the way around, or just bulged in one spot/on the side?

I always look at my rounds as I load them. I found a WWB(or was it UMC?)with an obvious flaw/bulge in it once.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

I've had Fiocchi that loked that way, but not any American stuff.

I wouldn't see it as very much of a defect if they shot alright.

Have you mic'd the rounds? Real numbers are worth much more than a picture, in this case.

    Common and normal.

The "bulge" isn't necessarily a bulge. When the cases are formed (or reformed when you reload) they sometimes are a bit undersized when compared to the OD of the bullet. This is not a bad thing as semi-autos headspace on the case mouth and so you don't want to use a roll crimp to hold the bullet in place, and the bit undersized case helps secure the bullet. If they feed fine and shoot ok, then nothing to worry about.

Thumbs up Re: Bulge in my hp ammo?

The only thing that bulge indicates, is that you're going to have a nice consistent "bullet pull" caused by the nice and snug case.
