Re: Has anyone taken the Pa Act 120 training?
I hear police academy is harder than marine and army boot camp.
Thats just what I've heard from a couple troopers.
My advice, if you don't have to work, is to attend the academy full time.
Usually runs around 4 and 1/2 months, 5 days a week, and from 7am to 5pm.
You will live on campus when going full time.
The prices I've seen usually range between 4,000 and 4,500.
This covers living expenses, food, ammo, books, uniforms.
I don't know what you do during off time, and weekends.
I can only assume most of the time is spent studying course material and physical training.

Army boot camp is a walk in the park.
Act 120 is a walk in the park, unless its taught by PSP in Hershey. Even then they do not subject the future municipal officers to the same degree that PSP cadets will receive.
PSP Academy is a lot different than your run of the mill Act 120.
When a future trooper goes through his academy, it is run a lot like Marine Corps boot camp. Harder than Marine boot camp........I don't think so.

Re: Has anyone taken the Pa Act 120 training?
Yes, I am looking at going to Harrisburg. That is the closest one to me. I read the 7 months somwhere but I can't seem to find it now. Maybe that was part-time.
I'm definately looking at going full time. I will be getting laid off around the end of September so I will have all the time in the world.
I just joined a local gym today that seems quite awsome and cheap with what all they have availble. I guess Mondays the day that things will be getting on a roll and changing...
Thanks to everyone for their input. It is greatly apperciated.

Don't know where you read that at: Full time is 20 weeks and part time is 12 months. No more academies for this year either. Next full-time starts Jan 19, 2010 and ends June 3, 2010. Part time starts Jan 10 and runs through Dec. And it is currently priced at $3,010 (plus fees)

Re: Has anyone taken the Pa Act 120 training?
Just wanted to kind of update everyone who cares.
I've been quite bust this past week getting things together. I've joined an awsome local gym and have ben trying to get there as frequently as possible.
I've been in contact with a woman who "oversees" I guess you would call it the Act 120 program. She answered a few of my questions and is sending me the enrollment papers. She said LEO's get first dibs on the class then the private sector. About 40 people are per class and that last course they had to turn people away.
But the forms are on the way. I've filled out FAFSA paperwork to see if I qualify for financial aid. They ask everything on that paperwork. What your mom made last year on 1040 line 56, your dads shoe size, how many hairs are on your left testicle (if applicable).
So hopefully by Jan. I'll be close to being in a shape other than round and be taking the class.
Thanks everyone for you help.
