Friday 8/14 I have a meeting with Joe Sestack
or a representative in his office concerning 2A. I know he has no concept of "gun show' loophole is" and what goes on there, not to mention what an assault weapon is. Would anyone like to join me? I intend to educate him on the "loophole" and what an "assault" weapon really is. I would like to go there with one or two others and discuss these issues and their importance. Will they let all of us in,,, i don't know. They may consider us a "gang", if there is more than just me.
The meeting is set for 10 AM on Friday. Any one want to join me? It is in his Media office. I WILL NOT TAKE ANY WEAPON INTO HIS OFFICE. I'd like to meet with you first and then meet with "him" or his rep. I've invited him to throw some rounds down the range with me at Delaware County Field and Stream.
I'm a 65 yo guy,,,,, just looking to talk to him and discuss 2A.
GeorgeGeorge,

Re: Friday 8/14 I have a meeting with Joe Sestack
Have you gathered all of your statistical information ?? Have you prepared any kind of simple " report " to present your arguments ?
Did you know that many high level Law Enforcement Officers from across the Country testified before Congress that " assault weapons " ARENT the problem ?
Did you copy Josh Sugarmann's quote ? Where he publicly admitted to the media it was his intent to mislead the American public by intentionally confusing them about the difference between " assault weapons " and actual real select fire machine guns ?
This one should really rock him ! Print out the opinion of the DOD Weapons Expert that stated the DOD defines "assault weapons " as selective fire weapons . I'd love to see 30 year Navy man Sestak squirm when he gets confronted with the fact that his opinion directly contradicts the DOD .
What about the Clinton Justice Dept report that found that " assault weapons " were only ever involved in 1% of all gun crimes ?
Or the much more recent National Academy of Sciences report that found the same thing ?
Im not trying to dump a ton on your head , and TBH I dont think it will change his mind one bit . But after how horrible Specter has been received at the Health Care Town halls , Im convinced his career is over . And if the least you can do is be able to publicly expose that Sestak KNOWINGLY discarded relevant information , that just might be enough to make him tone it down . Especially if he knows he's under the microscope on the issue .Si vis pacem, para bellum

Re: Friday 8/14 I have a meeting with Joe Sestack
How much time do you have scheduled? I'm sure we could all go on for hours given the opportunity, but the reality is that there is a time limit and there is a point at which he'll just stop caring/paying attention.
I remember seeing a video, sorry don't have the name or link, on youtube that looked like it was filmed in the early to mid 90s. It was a police officer demonstrating the difference between an assault rifle (full auto AK-47)) and a semi auto (AK-47 clone). He also showed the difference between a hunting rifle and an AK-47. The best part about it is he basically swapped the receivers on the AK-47 with the "hunting rifle" to show that the true problem people have isn't with the gun itself/operating technology, it's the asthetics.
If you could somehow get him to watch a shortened version of this video (I think it may have been about 10 mins), I think it would be a better demo of the differences than what you could show (aside from taking him to a range). I don't think any amount of explaination is going to get through the difference between full auto and semi auto to someone who's never fired a gun. I think they need to see or experience it. Also being that this video was from a LEO it may carry more weight than just any random video.
EDIT: just found the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysf8x477c30
EDIT2: Pls don't mention that class 3 weapons are available. If you do mention class 3 weapons, should probably just stick to the point that new manufacture for civilians has been banned for over 20 years.Last edited by leeam; August 12th, 2009 at 11:02 PM.

Re: Friday 8/14 I have a meeting with Joe Sestack
This guy is totally anti-gun. He wrote a letter to the Prez of my company who is a fellow hunter and pro-freedom advocate. The letter was TOTALLY anti. You probably will not change his mind, as he claimed to want to "represent his constituents" and "believed in the right to keep and to bear arms, but there should be reasonable gun control" or something like that.
As stated above, come with statistics and facts if you want to have a leg to stand on.

I appreciate the info on Josh. I printed out a bunch on him, including his FFL information. I intend to be, information wise, armed and dangerous.
Thanks,

Re: Friday 8/14 I have a meeting with Joe Sestack
Well, it's done. As I expected, a subordinate. Young gentleman (sorry, no offense to the 22 year olds) with no clue, although he did take notes. I asked him about Joe's position against "the gun show loophole". He explained about how anyone can just walk in and buy a gun. He had no concept that it requires a PICS to buy a sidearm at the show. I explained that the dealers there were FFL's and had to do the PICS before turning over a pistol to you, makes no difference whether you buy it at their shop or the gun show. I went on to explain that I could sell him a rifle/shotgun on the courthouse steps, ftf, after verifying he is old enough to buy it. He had the deer in the headlight look on his face and had no comeback.
Getting the idea the he was merely a recording secretary, I moved on to "Lethal Lou's Pawn Shop" issue. Joe believes the BATF should have authority to check out shops, that sell guns that are consistently found to be used in crimes, more than once a year. On this point, we agree,,,,,,, but!!!!!!!! My point was that Lethal Lou cannot stop straw purchases. He can only run PICS and if it comes out fine, he sells the gun, PERIOD. Lou cannot stop straw purchases. The court system must prosecute these people, once they discover who made the buy. If BATF finds problems with Lou, shut him down.
I moved on to Josh Sugarmann. I told him about the "Criminals don't buy guns in gun stores. That's why their criminals" quote. I had to explain who Josh was, as he had no idea. That took some time. I did go into the Josh has an FFL that is using his VPC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violence_Policy_Center) address for his FFL. I did go into the fact that this usage may violate zoning laws and may be a violation of BATF regulations. This discussion moved onto the fact the Josh is credited with coining the "assault weapon" phrase.
Leading to the "assault weapon" part.............................................. ..........................(the kid is still clueless)
I gave him the DOD definition of a AW, verbatim. This discussion took most of my time with him, as I do have an SKS. I went into detail about the weight, size and speed of the 7.62x39 and told him that it's the same round used in the AK. Mentioned same details about the 30.06. He, again, had the deer in the headlight look. I went into great detail about "assault weapons" versus our current versions.
His question to me was what do we do to stop the violence???? My answer was "enforce the existing laws". Don't make more laws that will only affect the law abiding citizen, I don't want to be convicted of not reporting my firearm stolen withing 24 hours, as it is possible for me to not realize it was stolen within that time frame. Don't pass laws that can make law abiding citizens criminals. We don't need more laws, we need enforcement of existing.
Overall, I held the floor,,,,,, but,,,,,, I was talking to a "kid" that never held a gun, never fired a rifle/shotgun. Had no real concept of 2A. I gave him a 26 page report that I printed out for the net. It was titled something like "a sensible approach to gun control"? (I gotta find that again and I'll post a link).... I invited him (and Joe)to go over to Delaware Field and Stream and put some holes in paper.
As I walked out, I mentioned that I would still like a FTF with Joe.
We''ll see if that happens,,,, but I will continue to pursue it.
