Handgun hunting -- how to legally carry
I have a PA CCW permit and a PA hunting license. I want to carry a revolver along with my primary rifle when I hunt deer and black bear in the event I'd get a nice close shot.
How do I carry the revolver? Can it be in a hip holster carried in the open, or does it have to be concealed?
Does anything change if I'm on State Game Lands or State Forest vs private land?

Re: Handgun hunting -- how to legally carry
See page 1 at the bottom right for carrying a handgun.

I know hunters who carry a back up pistol to take down the wounded deer. I would make sure I have the hunting license and your LTCF permit on you as well. When I carry a pistol to go hunting, I will conceal it just like I would if I was carrying it on the streets. YMMV
ETA: That I haven't gone hunting with a handgun. I also feel that carrying your handgun in a holster would be acceptable.Last edited by aubie515; June 12th, 2007 at 05:41 PM.

Re: Handgun hunting -- how to legally carry
For Whitetails I hunt over a Ruger Red Hawk w/ a 2x Leupold, usually I carry out while active hunting, for general walking and dragging I use a shoulder rig inside the coat
Bear I use the same handgun but with a buddy, and an 06 as backup.
I've been spot checked by a warden once while out for bear and he only requested to see my hunting license.Last edited by 1927A1; June 12th, 2007 at 08:45 PM.

Re: Handgun hunting -- how to legally carry
With your CCW, you can carry concealed (under your hunting coat) if you so desire, or it can be out in the open. Your choice.
If I'm hunting with a rifle, I'll have a handgun on a OWB holster.
If I'm hunting with a handgun (scoped Ruger Super Redhawk) when not in my hands it is carried in an Uncle Mike's Bandoleer holster.
