UPDATE: i have decided to eliminate two rifles in favor of an M1-A1
replacing the maadi and the 700bdl, 06 from the shtf kit.

i like the scout models. what im wondering is how much will the shorter barrel effect accuracy at 200yds? an inch larger groups or less?

if the proverbial sh#t does hit the fan i would rather one rifle that could do both jobs and one reason i prefer my ak over an ar is the round, maybe not as pin point accurate as a 223 but 50 grains or so of additional lead is considerable so the idea of a .30 bullet is to me very exciting.

How do you like the Ithaca? Do you think that it is worth getting over the Rem 870 or the Moss 500?

    Talking Re: My SHTF/ZRT kit.

i had the old gerber model machete with the full hand guard it sucked real bad. wore the skin off of my hand from the poor ergonomics, i must try one of the new ones now that i see they changed the grip.

i love the ithaca. i would like to find a different butstock for it that i can turn into a wood pistol grip. i will not hurt any of the original furniture.

if i did not own the mod. 37 already i would prob look for a browning bps to convert to a tactical shotty. i like the bottom eject/ambidexterous feature and with the bps it is a tang saftey wich i prefer. i dont know how many times i forgot to remove the saftey on shotguns with the trigger guard saftey while hunting.

i have hunted with my bps 12 ga. pump for the past 25 years and it is like second nature to use so thats another reason i would go for the browning to make a tactical/H.D gun.

that being said both the 870 and the 500 are SUPER shotguns and if you know them well then that is the way to go. i am pretty sure also that those two models have tons of add ons readily available through any number of vendors.

    good luck.

thanks Lisa, i love that gun.

it started as a Maddi post ban with a sporterized thumb hole stock. the ati plastic was just around a hundred bucks about 2 yrs ago. its a folder but i have yet to install the needed parts to make it compliant so the but stock is fixed in the unfolded position with a pin that came with the kit. i paid $250 for the rifle in 96 and just put a tlr-2 on it this year.

im under $700 bucks into it and from what i understand Maddi has a solid rep due to the fact the factory in Maddi Egypt was shipped in its entirety from Russia.

i am sure i have put over two thousand rounds down the tube ,mostly wolf ammo( non corrosive) and can only remember one failure to feed and i am almost certain it was a bum round. i think in the years i have owned it has been cleaned 5 times.

i have yet to have it to the range with the laser to tune it in but when i do i will update you. with the open sites she eats pie plates at 100 yds like crazy, maybe not moa but doa is good enough for me

I dont see rations, FAK, clothing, tools, etc...

That looks more like a "I'm gonna shoot some shit"-Kit.

In the zPAW (or typical bug out) scenario, I think avoidance and stealth will take priority over firepower. Don't get me wrong, a decent defensive arsenal is invaluable, but over-packing firepower and under-packing survival gear is going to force you to have more civilization encounters than necessary, imho.

    Edit to add:
In case I didnt say it: Those are some very nice weapons.

Isn't it nice when you can upgrade ban-era toys now that the useless ban is sunsetted? I had the same idea for a few of the Sigs in my collection that were shipped with crippled 10-round magazines during the ban years. Unfortunately, every time I try to order the full-capacity replacement magazines from Sig, they're out-of-stock.

I've never personally used Wolf ammunition, but I always hear others saying that it's very dirty to shoot and requires more frequent cleaning of the firearm. That doesn't seem consistent with your being able to shoot 2,000 rounds and only clean your rifle five times. Is that because Wolf ammunition isn't as dirty as I've heard or because your rifle is a workhorse capable of reliably functioning under the dirtiest conditions?
