Need some recon intel
Well I'm retireing from the Navy next summer. My plan is to get an job at Tobyhanna and find an house someplace south of there. But I have not lived in PA in 20 years so I have no clue where someplace should be at. So what are the good towns/ areas I might want to look at house hunting. What are the areas that have HOA's so I can avoid them. Also if anyone works at the depot do you know of any good openings comeing up for someone with an electronics background that has Q/A exp and clearance.
I've been hawking USA Jobs but I haveno clue on how GS hireing works.
I most of all need to get the lay of the land. I'll be deployed for my last 7 months in so I can't really look on my own.
Thanks,

Re: Need some recon intel
My advice is to get the job at the Depot first, then worry about buying a house. If/once you get into TOAD look to rent for maybe a year (or get a contingency in your lease that allows early out upon purchase of a house) that way you can get the lay of the land up here and see exactly where you'd like to be.
What may be good for Jcabin, Dredley or me may not be suitable for you. Not all subdivisions w/ HOAs/POAs are necessarily bad. Some are gated, some are not, some you wouldn't even know are organized communities.
The point is, this area covers a really broad list of wants and needs. If you're younger and want night life, Stroudsburg and nubile ESU coeds might be good. If you want solitude, well we have that also. But we also have everything from gangs/section 8 housing issues to gas well drilling/mineral rights issues. Can't cover all that in one post.
Feel free to PM me for further clarification at any time or, better yet, once you're out of the navy, stop up for some boots on the ground recon and we'll do lunch and I'll lay out what I know about the area.
Good place to live though. (I moved back from Seattle to settle here and that's a nice area!)Sed ego sum homo indomitus

I'm a few miles south of Tobyhanna, wouldnt mind showing you around, it's great up here.

Re: Need some recon intel
I'm looking for the nice woodsy area. I'm too old to go clubbing-more of a glass of jack at the VFW. I could rent but then I have the rest of my house packed up-eh I could get a single and my Wife and son could say with our folk in Emmaus till I get things settled. I don't know if I can get up there soon, but I will be up in OCT, I will take you up on your offers. Thanks.

Re: Need some recon intel
I am not sure what the job situation looks like at Tobyhanna but I know that Picatinny Arsenal (my civilian job is there) is always looking for people. When I get back to my civillian job (after a 25 month mobilization) I will see what is available. I know quite a few people who commute 1-1.5 hrs to Picatinny from that area.
I will be returning to DOD Contractor status on the 21st of this month. I should have an idea of what is available by the end of the 1st week or so. I too am contemplating retirement in the next few months... 22 years is enough (maybe). When you are called a racist, it just means you won an argument with an Obama supporter.

If Tobyhanna doesn't work out, I'm sure you could get on at Letterkenny in Framklin Co. They have tons of work, lots of electronics (Patriot, Hawk) and are expanding.
