    Default Thoughts on S-941 / HR-2296

So I see the N.R.A. is pushing for approval of S-941/HR-2296 in their recent video. I haven't read it yet (as it requires referencing USC many times in order to see what they are striking and replacing) but was wondering if anyone here already has been on top of it?

Here it is on Thomas.Loc.Gov (sorry, don't do gov-track)
    S-941 as Introduced

Supposedly HR-2296 is the General Assembly companion, but here it is

And the Youtube Video from the NRA

I can give you some really non specfic ,broad strokes insights.

The ATF has been known almost since its inception to be not only dangerously incompetant , but to also willfully and viciously attack gun shop owners and individuals on extremely thin technical violations or outright fabricated violations. They are the epitome of the legendary " Jack Booted Thugs " . They once famously claimed that a shoelace was considered to be a machine gun part Swear to God its true , you can look it up !

They also just had a relatively well known case over the winter where an agent instructed a lab tech to doctor a firearms functioning test until the test produced the results the agent wanted so he could pursue a case against an Iraqi War vet for possession of a " machine gun "

An informant for the ATF coerced Randy Weaver into sawing off a shotgun barrel 1/16th of an inch short of the 16" limit , then intentionally screwed with the notice of the Court dates for Mr Weaver . This led to the famous Ruby Ridge stand off where Weavers unarmed wife was assassinated by an FBI Sniper while holding an infant . Charges were later dropped and Weaver successfully sued the Feds for a multi million dollar settlement . One judge called it the most egregious case of entrapment he had ever seen .

The bills you asked about are essentially about trying to clean up and overhaul the agency
