Store owner pleads to federal gun violations
Nanticoke businessman and co-defendant in Russia charged with gun smuggling.

SCRANTON – The owner of a Nanticoke sporting goods store pleaded guilty Tuesday to federal charges of conspiring to illegally export military equipment to Russia.

Mark Komoroski, owner of D & R Sports Center, entered a plea to five counts of conspiracy before Senior U.S. District Judge Edwin Kosik.

Komoroski and a co-defendant, Sergey Korznikov of Moskow, Russia, were charged in January 2008 with conspiring to smuggle various equipment, including rifle scopes, firearm magazines and face shields to be sold to unknown persons in Russia.

Komoroski pleaded guilty to conspiracy to export defense articles without State Department approval.

He also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering, mail fraud, smuggling and to conspiring to make false entries into records kept by a gun store.

Korznikov has not entered a plea. The case against him is pending.

Just a technicality, Without guns in the headline you would not have read it

    The HEADLINE says:

Store owner pleads to federal gun violations
Nanticoke businessman and co-defendant in Russia charged with gun smuggling.
But the body of the article says:
...including rifle scopes, firearm magazines and face shields
I don't care who you are, but telescopes, for rifles or not, magazines and face shields might fit into an expanded catagory of arms but no one would ever catagorize them as guns.

So if there were no GUNS involved in the actual conspiracy to
commit money laundering, mail fraud, smuggling
    and the real crime was
conspiring to make false entries into records kept by a gun store
. It was the news editor and reporter that are guilty of trying to sensationalize the story. Maybe the headline should have read: Local Store Owner Pleads to Violations of Federal Arms Export Laws. At least that would have been a little more accurate.

So if anyone, edstephan, and the Times Leader editor included, want me to believe that someone whether I know them or not is smuggling guns, they better show a list of guns purported to have been smuggled as a minimum. I've seen far to many "police photos" of "gun caches" that included not only legal guns, but with bb guns, pellet rifles, and airsoft guns sprinkled in to make the collection look more "imposing".

The media, as a whole, sucks. Period. Half the crap they write/show is swayed in the direction they want it to go using misinformed or knowingly altered for their cause. They are clueless.
