Default Anybody's mind ever get changed by what is posted here?

As we debate, discuss, bash each other over the head in the Politics section I just wonder if we are all just spouting what we already believe to be true without regard to other points of view or do some actually read posts that they may have disagreed with but changed their minds / points of view based on what was posted.

In other words, is it even worth it?

Is politics really about changing someones mind? I think not.

You can't make everyone think alike. What you can do is understand where one another is comming from, hope to find common ground, and respect one anothers opinions.

I have learned a great deal in and around this site. I find most people here can agree to disagree and maintain a bond.

I have to admit, I was wrong on a lot of things when I started. My eyes are open now!

    Absolutely.
Learning is a "change" of ones mind, and I have "learned" quite a lot here. Some of my opinions on things have been altered somewhat as well. Has anyone convinced me that the sky ain't blue? no, but there have been some good points brought up.

Like most, I'm rather passionate in my views and sometimes stuck in my ways. That said, I try to see the counterpoints when I disagree. We're always learning and you never know who will be the next instructor.

No, but when I realized that bleach wouldn't take the bad images and memories away, I'd thought for a millisecond of a lobotomy.

I wouldn't say that this site has changed my mind, but it definitely has gotten me much much deeper into politics (guns and everything else) since I've joined. Before joining I just voted R and that was it. Now I'm a lot more interested in whats going on in congress than I ever was.

    Sometimes.
There are some smart people here (and really stupid ones also) and I enjoy reading their posts. I try to look at other peoples views and angles on certain issues.

    Ha Ha

I've learned 2 things discussing politics here

    1. I'm always right
    2. Everyone else is always wrong (unless of course they agree with me)

But seriously, it is interesting hearing differing points of view. Not that i've ever felt like changing my mind on the issue but at least it makes me pause and consider other views. Hell, i even enjoy some of the lefties comments - you get a better understand of where they are coming from.

The only issue i've changed my mind on was the oc / cc debate. In the beginning, i thought all oc'rs were just attention whores with something to prove. I could never understand why anyone would willingly show all their cards. But since meeting some of those crazy oc'rs in person, i can say without doubt that my opinion of them was completely wrong.
