Re: Anyone in the trucking industry?
No, Marine Transport, Inc. from Mountainside, NJ; they have terminals in Newark, Baltimore, Norfolk, Cleveland, Columbus, Chicago, Charleston, Savannah & Atlanta...
Atlantic Container Lines was our largest customer [the company was started w/ some people from Ace, ACL's old house carrier] and their hyjinks w/ Haz Mat caused the audit that let to the discovery of the logs...
The sad part is the DOT hasn't gone after the shipper or ACL and the shipments are still being done in the same fashion. The shipper changed the load to include inhalation hazard products that we were not insured or permitted to transport as we had only one million in insurance instead of the required 5 million and the Hazardous Materials Safety Permit...we were sort of 'Haz Mat lite'...
If you are ever between Research Triangle Park, NC and Portsmouth, VA and you see a container w/ 2.3 toxic [inhalation hazard] placards; pull over and let them get away from you; chances are they are NOT properly insured, trained and permitted as I could not find a carrier in the greater Norfolk area who has the 5 million and the Haz Mat safety permit.Last edited by wis bang; July 27th, 2009 at 10:31 PM.

Re: Anyone in the trucking industry?
well i been driving truck for 17 years with no accident and only 2 speeding tickets...( they only check for 5 years back for tickets )
i have been out of work for a month and having trouble finding anything local.
you just starting out will be going over the road, to get some experience, no one hires local drivers with no experience...
i have noticed now that there use to be 4-5 rows of jobs in th epaper where now its down to 1 or 2 short columns...
for just starting out with no schooling,,, find the companies that will train you.. stay away from Schiender and Jb Hunt if you can.. Werner, maybe US Express is your best shot.... good luck
i know if i had a masters degree i wouldnt be driving a truck, just sayinTigers love pepper, they don't like cinnamon !

Vid focuses on I-81 trucking but includes some other interesting info on trucking and interstate freight movement generally. This guy has other interesting content on infrastructure and transportation.
