Default I got a hand me down...

So about a month ago my boss gave me a shotgun. I was pretty excited, because now I'd have a "collection". He kept telling me he had to find it, and I'd bug him about it, but I was in no hurry. So after a while he tells me it probably needs a good cleaning, and graciously took it to his old friend he used to be a gunsmith. A few weeks later, he brings it into work, and hands it over! I gave it a once over; quite the plain old shotgun. 28" barrel, wood stock, 12 ga. pump. Within the next few weeks following that I shot it a few times, through some 3" mags through it, but mostly target loads. I shot some clays, it worked fine.

One of my coworkers asked about the gun. Since he doesn't like me very much, he was hoping that the gun my boss gave me was a crappy Sears something awful. I told him, now that I think about it, I have no clue what it is. I went home later, to look at the markings, and saw "Eastfield Model 916...Springfield Illinois blah blah" So I went back the next day, reported my findings and said " I have no clue what an Eastfield is " I left it at that.

So it was only last night, when I was doing a full cleaning on the shotgun and my pistol, that I took a closer look at the stamping again. Honestly I dunno how I missed this before, but it's a Smith & Wesson Model 916. As far as the eastfield, I'm still not sure about that. But I was able to research the gun a LITTLE. To find that it was made in the 70's only. And S&W has since stopped of course. I could quote, wikipedia, but I wont. Anyway, I'm pretty happy about that, because it's in good condition, and the gun may have some nostalgia to it. I told my boss today when I came in, and he's just like "Really?!"

Some say that his discharge is luminous.

Cool story, pretty sweet. A free gun rocks, and even better it sounds like its something kinda special.

Google "eastfield shotgun". I saw about 20 hits.
