Default Buddy breaks in his MAK 90 (Pics)

Buddy recently bought himself a MAK 90. He came up from N.C. and we went to a local range to do some shooting. What great day. We had a blast and shot a mess load of ammo.

What kind of a magazine is that???

    Now it is looking better.

Now this ain't bad for a 100 yard open sighted group. And this is only about the 2nd or 3rd time he shot it.

Dave on the left and me on the right. Great day at the range. We love our MAK 90 AK's and it showed by how much ammo we shot today. Dave's next step is to turn it into an Evil Black Rifle. The sickness spreads to another one.

Yeah, those MAK's may not be the prettiest AK rifle, but they sure are fun.
When Dave converts his, just remember the MAK receiver sheet metal is 1.5 mm (about .060") which is considerably thicker then the 1.0 mm (.040") metal on most stamped AK's. Something to consider when going to a different stock.
I've had my MAK since '94 or '95. I did my 922 conversion several years ago. I went with the (Polish wire type) sidefolder way as I'd read they're less likely to loosen up (as compared to the underfolders). I have no idea if that's true, but I will say the sidefolder lock up is nice and tight....but the cheekweld sucks.

Kind of cool ain't it. I love my AK's. They don't shoot 2 inch groups. But I still love my AK's.

personally, I am not a fan of the Kalashnikov style rifles BUT, holy cow do they have history and for good reason too. Been around for a long time, always work, easy to maintain. I saw a quote once, "When the world ends, the only thing that will be left is cockroaches and AK-47's"

    +10000000

I still favor my AKs over the rest of the family ... just don't tell them

My buddy and I were talking at the range this day while shooting. We were both in the CORPS, both GRUNTS. He stayed in and crosstrained and it payed off big time. He still works for the Marine Corps now as a civilian instructor. He goes to the range all the time at Camp Lejune, and says how finicky the AR's can be that he sees there.

He is like me. He just loves the reliability of the AK. I don't need to shoot 2 inch groups. I'm not a target shooter. My firearm is there for a real purpose. First entertainment (The AK sure does that well). Second, as a means of self defense. I need a weapon that I know will fire no matter how bad it gets treated and how little I clean it during bad times. And the AK does that for me.

And I just love the quote above. It really does put the AK into perspective. No, it won't drive tacks. And yep, an AR will out shoot it any day at any range. But I know my AK will shoot when I need it too.
