Front Sight Change On Ruger Gp100
I just bought my first gun (stainless 4" gp100) and wanted to know if it was a good idea to change the front sight from the standard steel ramp to a hi-viz myself or if i should take it to a gunsmith. How much would something like that cost if i took it to a gunsmith?
thanks for any help.

Re: Front Sight Change On Ruger Gp100
The front sight on a GP100 is very simple to replace. I don't know how mechanically inclined you are so I can't say if you should go to a gunsmith or not. However, I beleive if you can change the oil in your car, you can install a new Hi-Viz sight on your GP100.
Good luck...[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Re: Front Sight Change On Ruger Gp100
Easy part to replace. The adjustable sight GP's hold the sight in with a
spring loaded plunger at the muzzle, on the fixed sight models the blade is
held in place by 1 small pin through the top of the barrel. Push out the pin
and the sight will lift up and out.

Lots of different sights to choose from for a GP100. You can even got with ghost rings if you want. Both MidwayUSA and Brownells carry a large assortment to pick from. Push in the button on the front of the sight and lift it out. Reverse to put it in. Rear sight is easy to replace also.

Got a source? Couldnt find ghost ring rear blades on Midway nor Brownell's, but a search showed me multiple GPs on Gunbroker with ghost rear blades.
I'd love to get a ghost for my Ruger, as I've tried them on a Glock, combo'd with a fiber optic front, and loved flash target picture it offered.

You put a punch in the front hole just below the front sight and depress the spring. Then you pull up and forward on the sight to remove it. It is held in by spring action. To install, just reverse the procedure.
