Doesn't anyone appreciate quality revolvers anymore?
All this talk about blocky plastic fantastic semi-autos. Doesn't anyone appreciate a good Colt Python or Colt Diamondback anymore?
How about Browning Hi Powers - now that's a pistol.
Oh well, I guess I am just a throw back to a time when you got some sort of "pride of ownership" out of a finely crafted pistol/revolver instead of an injection molded piece of plastic.

Re: Doesn't anyone appreciate quality revolvers anymore?
.
Now THAT is a coincidence...
When I was a teenager a 6" nickel Python and a Belgium Browning were the first two pistols I ever shot and have always been my favorites looking back. The Python had the best trigger I ever felt, smooth and crisp. The Browning had the classic profile and just felt right in my hand. Over the years I've intended to get both but they always seemed to get pushed aside for one of the flavors of the day. Recently I've started to sell things that I don't use with the plan on purchasing those very two.

Do older Smiths count. I couldnt justify paying 1100 for the 4 inch blued Python when this model 19 was sitting right next to it for 400. Believe me you have got to pull the trigger on this one to fully appreciate it.

Re: Doesn't anyone appreciate quality revolvers anymore?
My dad taught me how to shoot pistols with an old Ruger security six. I still think it’s one of the finest combat revolvers. I had a student in class this year that's dad is an officer in Oakland -Pittsburgh who still carries one. So I'd say his life depends on one.

No, I wanted one but then I found out about the Judge 3" Magnum.
If only they made one in 12 gauge... I'd be asking what a Colt Python is.

Re: Doesn't anyone appreciate quality revolvers anymore?
I have several revolvers in my collection. I am always on the look out for another. As my collection builds I have found myself becoming more picky on what I am looking for.

Re: Doesn't anyone appreciate quality revolvers anymore?
I have a Colt Python. Very smooth. Nice gun to show friends.
My glock can hold 14 rounds with the stock mag, while providing the comfort level of a revolver as far as it shooting every time.
As cliché as it is, I will say it again:
I will show a friend my Colt Python, I will show an enemy my Glock.
It may be an injection molded piece of plastic. But damn it works perfect!

Re: Doesn't anyone appreciate quality revolvers anymore?
Appreciate? Hell yes. Having a Smith & Wesson revolver is something I aspire to - I could see picking up a 629 in .44 caliber with a long, ported barrel. Colt revolvers would also be awesome, though they aren't exactly affordable.
However, for me it comes down to optimums for defense purposes.
Since a 629 is a little uncontrollable for home defense, I could get a Smith .357 wheelgun with a 4" barrel, and it'd be around the same price as a Glock 19. The Glock 9-para does only slightly less damage than a .357, but the mag has 17 rounds vs. 7 at best for the wheelgun. That's a delta of ten rounds.
The Smith would be substantially less than a new Sig P229 in .40 cal with a tactical rail and night sights (my ideal for home or open-carry defense). But again, it comes down to about the same stopping power with three to five fewer rounds. Still an unacceptable delta for me.
Availability of ammunition is a prime concern. .40 S&W may be in short supply, but .357 appears to be much more of a problem.
