    Default Over/Under Pack Gun Concept

So, with the demise of the Springfield M6 Scout came painfully inflated spectator pricing on those pieces circulating on the used market. That got me thinking:

    -Savage M24 (.22lr/.410)
    -Barrels shortened to 18.5"
    -DuraCoat or equivalent "tough" finish
    -Choate Survivor style stock/forend
    -Weatherproof pack case

I'm sure it's something I'd likely never get around to doing, but I think it's a workable concept. Of course, if Springfield had the common sense to bring back the M6 Scout and keep the MSRP where it was (around $200), this would all be a moot point.

    Thoughts?

I see where you are going.
How about this idea for a pack gun (this may already exist).
A 18" barreled single shot .45 cal (rifled barrel) that also chambers 410 shot shells. I know they make derringers like this. Or to be even more simple, just get a 410 single shot shotgun (that breaks down) cut it to 18". You can use it for small game (#6 shot) and large game with a slug, sabot, or buckshot. I don't really see a need for .22. But thats just me.

I use to own one of these (great little pack/survival gun)
    AR-7

    They are still available:

I believe H&R (Harrington and Richardson) have already come up with that concept... Nice handy combo!

Dam stole my idea! I suspected it existed. I kind of like it. Nice find! I wonder if it's rifled, probably not?

I think it has to be rifled... isn't there something illegal about having a smooth bore rifle (other than muzzle loaders)?

I suspect the Survivor® | .410/45 Colt is a shotgun, it has a choke. A smooth bore rifle is a shotgun, different minimum length between a shotgun and a rifle.

Didn't James Bond (Sean Connery) have an AR7 in From Russia with Love (UA, 1963)? If I misremember incorrectly, barrel, action, and IR sight packed into the stock and were kept in his funky briefcase with the gold and the knife.

    A smooth bore rifle
If its a rifle, it ain't a smoothbore. We do see the term used occasionally for some MLers but, even there, it's not accurate.
The little M6 is a handy item and remarkably accurate for what it is.
Don't lose hope. In the past, Springfield has discontinued them and then reissued them. When I started looking for one some years ago, they were not to be had. I kept checking and, lo, there they were, newly manufactured.

Nope, you are correct. I think Q said it was .25 cal.
