GRATERFORD — The State Correctional Institute at Graterford will allow two one-day antlerless deer hunts next year on the prison grounds in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

The first hunt will be on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, for 50 junior hunters between 12 and 16 years old.

The second hunt will be Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, for 50 adult hunters.

All hunters applying must have a valid state hunting license, a Montgomery County antlerless deer permit, proper clothing (250 square inches of fluorescent orange on their head, chest and back visible from 360 degrees), and only use a shotgun with slugs or buckshot.

Hunters will be chosen by lottery. To apply, send a 3-by-5 inch white index card containing their name, address, phone number, date of birth, back tag number and C.I.D. antlerless deer permit number. Also, applicants should send a self-addressed, stamped envelope and indicate whether they are applying for the junior or adult hunt.

Only one application per hunter will be accepted.

The applications should be mailed to Kim Benjamin, State Correctional Institution at Graterford, P.O. Box 246, Graterford, PA 19426. The deadline is Monday, Nov. 20. Only those selected will be notified, by mail, during the week of Dec. 14.
