Authorities seek police impersonators in Carrick
    Monday, July 20, 2009
    By Dan Majors, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pittsburgh police are searching for four men who impersonated officers Sunday afternoon to force their way into a Carrick apartment, where they threatened and robbed a family.

Police said the men, described as white males between the ages of 19 and 27, stormed into the apartment in the 2100 block of Brownsville Road at 4:30 p.m., screaming, "Police task force, this is a raid."

The victims -- a couple, their adult son and a family friend -- said one of the men wore what appeared to be a fake badge around his neck. Another suspect waved a piece of paper, saying it was a search warrant. All four intruders had walkie-talkie style radios and were talking to each other on them, calling for police dogs to be sent in.

One suspect, brandishing a gun, ordered the wife into a rear room and threatened to harm her if she did not tell him where the money was located.

A second suspect ordered the three men to the floor, where they were handcuffed.

A neighbor who saw the first suspect dragging the wife to the rear of the apartment called out, asking if she was OK. While the suspect was distracted, the wife escaped from the building.

Police said the men fled with money and other valuables

I hate say it, but SWAT better be careful, until these clowns are caught.
