Opinions on Heckler & Koch USP
I'm in the market for a new handgun, and these really sparked my interest. I've only ever owned revolvers, and I'm not totally sure I'll make the switch to semi-automatic, but I have been looking at the H&K USPs chambered in .45ACP.
I've also been giving some thought to Kimber 1911s, and I've heard some great things about them as well.
Also considering a smith and wesson 627 .357 mag revolver.
The kimber 1911 and the S&W 627 all seem to get rave reviews, but I can't find too much about the H&Ks so hearing some real world opinions would be great.
Whatever I end up with will probably end up replacing my S&W 629 as my daily carry weapon; at least in the summer. I do love it, and I love shooting it, but concealed carrying when it's hot out is kind of a pain cause of the need to wear some kind of over shirt to cover the bulge.
Thanks in advance

Peronally , I LOVE just about anything HK puts out ! Germans make three things better then just about anyone on the planet , precision engineered sports cars , beer and guns !
Ronnie77 from here is the biggest HK fan I know (besides me ) from PAFOA and he has an awsome and enviable collection , including if Im not mistaken more then 1 HK USP .45 . Im partial to the USP .40 and .40 Compact myself but thats just me . I dont think anyone will argue you cant go wrong with an HK USP for rock solid reliability. Some complain their pricey , but I've seen plenty of used ones in excellent condition for between 400 to 500 bucks .
The USP also has something like 13 different trigger configurations you can get as well .Si vis pacem, para bellum

Re: Opinions on Heckler & Koch USP
From the research I have done, H&K have a reputation for making some of the finest pistols in the world. Alas, I do not own one yet.
Since you are interested in .45, H&K also has the H&K45 which seems quite interesting.

Thanks for the fast replies fellas.
Twister, I'm checking out this H&K45 right now and it looks SWEET. Looks like I might actually be persuaded to buy a semi-automatic

I have an older USP in 9mm. It is my least favorite 'wonder-nine'. I like Sig P226 much better.

Re: Opinions on Heckler & Koch USP
I've had a few 9mm USP's and .45's come and go over the years. And one P2000 in 9mm. Overall they are superb weapons. Some have really long and heavy DA pulls. Others were rather nice. I found it depends on when the particular weapon was made. Every USP I've owned was always 100%, running with whatever I fed the thing, from crappy reloads, to wolf, to the hotter JHP ammo. Only downside for me was the size of the .45 fullsize. It was just too big for my needs at the time. The USP compact is a nice midsize though. One of mine was an LEM trigger and was a very smooth DAO style, alot of people like it. At times I've found mags and parts for the USP series to be pricey and hard to find, but holsters have never been a problem. The new HK45 and 45compact are really nice pieces, but are still a little on the large side for some folks, Definatly try to handle different variants before buying.

Re: Opinions on Heckler & Koch USP
I would go with the Hk45, not the USP. That is simply based upon the way that the pistol fits in my hand. The Hk45 also had some input by LAV in its design and I have seen them perform well in classes with heavy use.
This is coming from a 1911 guy... I do like my P30, very much though and will probably be adding a Hk45 sometime in the near future.
