IMO, if you're justified to shoot someone, shoot 'em dead.

If I discharge my firearm for self-defense, I intend to stop the person, not just piss them off. In addition, the bean bags eliminate the primary purpose of a shotgun--to throw a wide shot pattern.

Just use buckshot. If you're afraid to injure/kill someone trying to harm you, then you don't have any business carrying a firearm.

I personally wouldn't use bean bag rounds for HD, but you do what you want to...it's your six and you family's safety in the end. Just remember that you might be sued by the intruder in civil court for breaking his/her ribs.

Not to mention how expensive those bean bag rounds are to purchase. If non lethal force is what you want...why not just leave your home when someone breaks into the home? Wouldn't that solve the same issue and you won't have a civil case to worry about?

The the other people that have posted...be careful in how you word your posts...because "anything you say or do can be used against you." I realize this is the internet, BUT it's better to cover your butt.

Bean bags are a very poor choice for home defense. As posted above, more issues, less effectiveness.

If you want a home defense means that is non-lethal, I would recommend pepper spray in the large sizes and a burglar alarm. Both of these are more effective than hand-to-hand.

IMHO, a 12-gauge is best used for home defense when loaded with 00-buck.

I hear bean bags are great if someone doped up on drugs and cant perceive pain comes in to your house. Puts them down instantly. Especially the ones that dont drop from a police taser.

Really, I am 100% sure that I can entrust my life to bean bags when I need it the most.

So buckshot wouldn't work in that case? Sorry, if someone breaks into my house I'm not going to analyze them to see if they're on drugs, then adjust my loads accordingly.

The whole point of a bean bag is to cause incapacitation/compliance through pain and discomfort (like any other less lethal device), so how would a bean bag round do on somebody that doesn't feel pain?

Tazers are the ones that you really cant resist because they cause convulsions in your muscles. There's no way to stop electricity from going through your body, nomatter what drug you're on.

Bean bags are for crowd control, nothing more.

If a bad guy is in my house, it's not an act of protest gone bad, he's getting the '00' treatment.
