    One of the true leaders in journalism, and a true voice of the people. He did not play politics, nor "sugar coat" anything.. but told it LIKE IT WAS...

    Had been hearing he was in bad shape for a while ... an icon in news to say the least.

    I think the one thing I will NEVER forget about him is when he had to announce Kennedy was dead ... I was young but I remember it like it was yesterday. I'd never seen a newsman almost lose it ... definitely part of my childhood.

    And I just heard him say in an interview that he was never ashamed of that.

    And BTW...you guys remember ABC's Frank Reynolds? He also was a journalist that I respected .
