    Default Proven, Economical 9mm HP?

Hello all, I recently purchased a Glock 26, my first firearm. I've been shooting Remington 9mm Luger at the range and am looking for a good carry ammo.

I bought some Federal Hydra-Shoks with the pistol just to have something, but
I want to be able to run quite a bit of my carry ammo through the gun to be confident it will work. I am looking for a proven 9mm round that is not cost prohibitive to the extent that the Federal is, 30 bucks for 20 rounds.

    Thanks!

good SD ammo costs money, no way around that.

Federal HST (any weight, your preferance) are going to be your best bet if you can find them. The GLOCK will eat them fine, run a few boxs to be sure though.

Federal 115 grain 9BP JHP. For years this load was THE standard for civilian defensive loads. It was a very accurate load, consistently giving very good accuracy out of a wide range of guns. It was also a wonderfully reliable round.

Other options are Winchester's USA 115 gr JHP and Remington/UMC 115 gr JHP. Both bullets, like Federal's 9BP, are based on older technology, and sometimes fail going through heavy clothing, but overall work well at a more reasonable price. They've got a very respectable stopping record on the street. With these two, you can handload a duplicate of your carry round and practice with it at greatly reduced cost. Or carry them, if you don't mind carrying handloads.

You should be able to buy these for around $20 per 50. Roughly half the price of the premium loads, for rounds that will work very well. Not quite as good as the premiums in some scenarios, but in most defensive scenarios faced by non-LEOs, they are very good rounds.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Perhaps I'll buy a smattering and see what I like.

Now does anyone have a good online source for ammo?

They've actually got the Federal 9BP in stock right now for about $19 per 50. That can be kind of hard to come by. I'm still at a loss as to why this is LE only ammo now, use to be a civilian standard, with only the +P+ version being LE only.

Check out www.ballisticengineeringllc.com. They make Fury Ammunition. There 9MM personal protectionm loads use hornady hp/xtp. They are very accurate and cost is 21 dollars for 35 or something like that.
If you talk to them, tell them greg mathews sent you.

Maybe I will get discounts, LOL!
