New to area, SE PA range questions
For starters, I'm sure some of these questions have been asked and answered about a million times on here...
I'm moving to Philadelphia this summer from Florida, and was wondering if there was a good outdoor range within a reasonable distance for general, centerfire rifles.
Looking for a 100+ yard lane...outdoor...nothing special, just good shooting practice.
Anybody have any ideas?
Also, I've looked through the CCW laws in Penn and they have reciprocity with Florida, which is nice, but the rules for vehicle carry are a little less explicit than in FL.
Is there any sort of 3-step minimum for handguns in vehicle in PA, or is it tied to the CCW? Any other special rules for transport?
Lastly, I'd heard there were facilities in/around Nockamixon at one point, but that they may have closed. Any clarification on that would be great.
Thanks for any help in advance....you guys have a great forum here.
WM.

Re: New to area, SE PA range questions
As far as car carry goes, as long as you have a valid permit from any state you're okay, either open or concealed for handguns. Long guns can not be carried loaded in cars at all.
The range that I shoot at in Bucks County is Bucks County Fish and Game (http://www.bcfg.org). They have a 25/50/75/100 yard outdoor rifle range, as well as traps and an 7/25 yard pistol range.

Re: New to area, SE PA range questions
See these threads:
http://www.pafoa.org/forum/ranges-18...ladelphia.html
http://www.pafoa.org/forum/ranges-18...se-philly.html
The short answer is: the ranges close to Philly usually have stupid country club rules or are anti-CCW, both deal-breakers to me personally.
I used to belong to Bucks County Fish and Game back when I worked near there. It's a good range, with none of the problems I just described (for the rifle range -- I didn't find their pistol range very useful, as they had a slow-fire-only rule). I can't realistically get there anymore, but if you can, I would advise a trip there.Last edited by dgg9; May 31st, 2007 at 09:39 AM.

Re: New to area, SE PA range questions
Thanks for the quick reply - Bucks looks great, and it's not terribly far from East Falls.

I shoot at a nice state game lands range in chester county. It isn't too hard to find and they have 25, 50, and 100 yard ranges as well as a shotgun only area. And best of all it's totally free.
Pm me for directions/ info

Here are some around our area along with some otherones located statewide on the game comissions web site.

Me and my friend(dwhite725) shoot at the range in chester county. It is only about 30 minutes from our locale. It isn't all that bad considering again that it's totally free.Last edited by SharpShooter88; June 1st, 2007 at 09:59 AM.

I shoot at Delaware County Field and Stream. The facilities are nice, there is a pistol range, small bore, large bore, black powder, archery, air gun, table trap, trap, and skeet. Check out their website: http://www.dcfs.org/.
It is about a 25 minute drive from Center City Philadelphia on weekends.
