PA: Tell Sen. Casey He Should Refuse To Cosponsor New Gun Control
Hey all,
GOA sent out the following alert today. It seems the anti's are trying to get PA Sen Bob Casey to co-sponsor their gun control legislation, so far he's been on the fence.
Please note you have to use a link to his senate email webform, instead of going thru the usual GOA activism page. Just cut and past the note below to tell Sen. Casey to stay away from this legislation.

Will Schumer Get Sen. Casey To Cosponsor His Legislation?
-- Your help is desperately needed to keep this from happening

"The Gun Owners of America [has] already launched a public campaign
to block the legislation... warning that the proposal could 'block
millions of additional, honest gun owners from buying firearms.'" --
Newsweek, April 24, 2007
As indicated by the Newsweek article, the GOA campaign is well
underway. We are mobilizing the gun owning community across the
country and have sent press releases into selected congressional
districts to put pressure on waffling legislators.
And that is why you are getting this email, because your Senator,
Robert Casey (D), is going to be a key player in this fight.
You are, no doubt, aware that GOA has alerted you several times to
the Brady Law expansion bill -- legislation that will continue the
assault on your Second Amendment rights.
We've also provided our members postcards to send their
Representatives and Senators. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU'VE SENT THOSE
POSTCARDS IN!
Now, we need you to e-mail a specially-tailored message (which is
found below) to Senator Casey. In the past, the Senator has bragged
about how pro-gun he is.
Well, if he's going to talk like that, now is his time to prove it!
As we told you before, the Brady expansion bill is gun control, pure
and simple. Current and past sponsors include anti-gun Senators
Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Ted Kennedy (D-MA), and Dick Durbin (D-IL).
And on the House side, there's the notoriously anti-gun Carolyn
McCarthy (D-NY) and John Conyers (D-MI) who are in full support of
this gun control measure.
At this point there is no Senate bill -- at least not yet. But
Senator Chuck Schumer is expected to be the lead sponsor in the
senate, just as he was in 2003. And if history repeats itself, he
will have some strange company, as he did four years ago.
This bill from four years ago is virtually identical to HR 297, which
is the bill that Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) is now pushing in the
wake of the Virginia Tech shootings. To make matters worse,
top-ranking Democrats are in negotiations with the NRA to come up
with a "compromise" as quickly as possible.
The NRA itself told Newsweek in an exclusive interview on April 24
that the group "backs [the] proposed new legislation" in the House.
No wonder so many pro-gun congressmen feel like they are caught in a
crossfire between GOA and NRA.
So what can we do? Or more importantly, what can YOU do? Well,
there are three important action items for all gun owners to take:
ACTION:
1. Tell Senator Casey that grassroots gun owners do NOT want more gun
control! If he's going to talk a pro-gun game, now is the time for
him to prove it.
2. Urge the Senator to refrain from adding his name to any proposed
Schumer gun control bill.
3. Circulate this alert to other gun owners that you know.
CONTACT INFORMATION: You can e-mail Senator Casey by using his
webform at http://casey.senate.gov/contact.cfm -- simply cut and
paste the message below into the box provided.
Or you can contact Senator Casey by:
Phone: 202-224-6324 or use the toll-free switchboard at 877-762-8762
Fax: 202-228-0604
----- Pre-written letter -----
Dear Senator Casey:
Gun Owners of America informs me that HR 297, a colossal gun control
bill, is on the fast track and can come up in the Senate at any time.
As a supporter of Second Amendment rights, I do NOT support this
bill, which is being pushed by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy and Senator
Chuck Schumer.
You have campaigned as pro-gun in the past. I hope that you will
stand by your statements and OPPOSE the Schumer-McCarthy legislation.
In years past, Senator Schumer was the lead sponsor on this measure.
When he reintroduces this bill, I hope that you will REFUSE to lend
your name as a cosponsor and will OBJECT to any Unanimous Consent
agreement regarding its passage.
The Virginia Tech tragedy, which Senator Schumer is using to try to
push this bill, highlights the failure, not success, of gun control.
Instead of passing yet more laws that restrict my Second Amendment
rights, Congress should consider repealing the failed gun control
laws on the books.
Again, please oppose the Schumer-McCarthy bill, and object to any
Unanimous Consent agreement. Please let me know what you intend to
do.
Sincerely,

Re: PA: Tell Sen. Casey He Should Refuse To Cosponsor New Gun Control
I sent him a letter in reference to HR 1022 and all he sent me back was a form letter telling me how great the Democratic party is.
Nothing about HR 1022.1/111th IN

I sent 3 letters to him. No response. Not even one of those "I will keep your thoughts when voting on this issue"

Sent.
He better not sponsor this bill if he wants to see another term in office. It is well proven that gun owners strike with a vengeance at the polls, and he would definitely be breaking a campaign promise to support such legislation.

Re: PA: Tell Sen. Casey He Should Refuse To Cosponsor New Gun Control
I sent him an e-mail on this yesterday though I tried to make it sound a little less confrontational than the GOA letter. I did remind him that he ran as being pro-2A and said that this was definitely an anti bill. Don't know what good it will do, but we shall see. Either way I just don't see him as being anything more than a 1 term Senator.

Casey's Voting Record
Support of funding and against withdrawl
voted against one of the stem cell bills
fairly conservative from the early looks, better stay that way.

Re: PA: Tell Sen. Casey He Should Refuse To Cosponsor New Gun Control
Done,
I've sent him emails and such before, all I've ever gotten back were canned responses and they pretty much represented the liberal left agenda...
I didn't vote for the empty suit the first time and I won't vote for him ever... I'm still trying to figure out if this SOB ever held a job that wasn't paid for by the taxpayers...
